Kerrlaw1;

I understand your not agrreing with my post, however We made the choice to do it that way after not just a few but many of our fans said that they enjoyed our singing and they didn't enjoy the
"other un-named group", which sang about 1/3 the songs we talked mindlessly, they didn't minister they just talked about some mindless thing or another between songs.

In worship, where we do the entire service there is a little ministering through the word and we cap the service off with appropriate music that fits in with the sermon, we give an alter call, we sing the folks out, we pack-up and go to lunch! We are Pentecostals, but we eat like Baptists and Presbyterians.

My point exactly.

I called SG singers troubadours and bigboy asked whether they might be trouveres.

It is obvious that Gerald Wolfe, et al., use the language of the south and are therefore troubadours.

Now I understand you completely.

(What higher compliment could I pay to a lawyer? )

Oh! Boy I am worried about one of you. I will go no further.

Kerr teases politicians, I tease lawyers. On my part, at least, it is good-natured ribbing. I see no harm in his jokes, and mean no harm by mine.

We are all equal in the eyes of Cracker Barrel.

Oh Brother, I wish we had Cracker Barrel out here. The three days I was in Branson with the Gatlin Brothers, I must have put on 5 pounds and that was just breakfast!

Actually most politicians I know are lawyers. I think the majority of the U.S. Senate and House members are lawyers. And qtman will tease anybody.

I like short little blurbs in between songs - not entire monologues though.

Going back to the OT, I think it is unbecoming for a Christian band to lie like that - it would be so much better to just say "Hey, this is one of our newer songs, what do you think?"

Wasn't there a band of some sort named the Traveling Troubadours?

What no Cracker Barrel????

I agree with Kerr about the humor issue but I agree that the artist shouldn't claim it's the first time the song is performed when it isn't. That's my 2 cents for whatever it's worth.

I definitely feel that it is wrong for a group to mislead the audience by calling a song new when it isn't or really in any other way. I hate the idea of lip-syncing, or using stacked tracks to make a singer sound better, or anything that isnt "real".

I'm just saying that I'd rather go to a concert and hear the musicians and singers on stage only.. I know that's hard these days.

Oh, I know that! I was just pickin' at ya. There was a time (not so long ago) that EVERY thread seemed to wind up discussing the "stacks and tracks" issue. Fact is, there is no clear end to that debate. There are pros and cons on both sides, and lots of middle ground, as well. I really just couldn't pass up a chance to use my favorite smiley icon !!

Yep...I was at a recent Booth Bros. concert at Hoofer's and Michael was telling a story of the first time they were in concert with the Primitives...it was hilarious...well as many of you know the Primitives do play instruments...and the Booths use tracks...it ended with Michael repeating just about everything that has been said in here about tracks...it was hilarious!!! So...remember folks...THEY DO READ THE FORUMS!!!!

Thanks Lynn for the opening. Back to the topic of jokes and other comments between songs. In my one and only SG concert I especially noticed that the Booth Brothers had the ability to make jokes about the specifics of the moment. It is fairly easy to tell when the joke is scripted and has been told 150 times before.

I have been to concerts (non SG) where the performer engages the audience and almost has a conversation with them.

I have also been to concerts where the performer totally ignores the audience and not say a word.

One of the many talents the Booth Brothers have as performers is the abillity to make scripted moments appear spontaneous. I've seen them on 2 separate occasions 6 months apart in TX and my Mom saw them in NY and at each concert Ronnie admonished Michael not to take his wireless mike to the restroom.

I haven't heard that one before!!! <In honor of being jchaz's favorite!!!

Well...you know I don't expect to hear a new joke everytime I see someone. It's kind of like talking to that favorite relative or friend and you end up hearing that same story a couple of times. It's ok...I'm sure I've repeated myself too.

Well I see this happen a lot but I don't think its a big deal. Example: I saw the Perrys about 3 or 4 times in a row when Tracy would look at Matthew and say he knew Matt hadn't done it in a while but as something special for that night he wanted Matthew to play his tribute to Anthony....but... it really was special every time :-)

I played piano with a SG group one summer while in college and their emcee would tell the same stories and jokes night after night. I can safely say that NO ONE gets more tired of hearing those stories than the very ones onstage! That being said, I realized how important it was to engage the audience and unfortunately (for me) they responded really well to the jokes and stories he told. In response to the original post, I agree that artists should choose their words a little more carefully. It's just as easy to say "Here's one of our newer songs" as it is to say "You folks are the very first ones to hear this new song."
