I can't look at it, I'm at work... I have a thread to go tend and I'm slightly annoyed about doing so after I found out that teaching your kid to swallow a pill is using a home-remedy. Does anyone want to think about the cost of chewable midol custom compounded? I'm just saying that the little girl needs to get over this hang up because I can't buy her children's pills and give her adult dosages. It will max out the medical budget.

How about telling the parent that if they want their child to have a certain medication, they provide it?

Sharon, I had a dream about you last night. It's pretty vague now and I don't recall anything specific . . . just that you were everywhere in that dream! edited: Maybe it's because of your presidential campaign.

However, I didn't realize that some people had trouble swallowing pills. So I'm really no help at all. Just wanted to announce that - in case it hadn't been figured out yet.

I used to have trouble swallowing pills. I have a REALLY sensitive gag reflex that would get in the way. I think what got me over it was making sure I have LOTS of drink with which swallow the pill. My mom helped me realize that swallowing the pill isn't any different from swallowing some food after it's been chewed up some. Gotta get over the psychological first. I have to put my pills in my mouth long-ways, so it's parallel with my tongue. Otherwise they get crooked going down and scratch my throat. Other than that, I have no thoughts/ideas/etc.

I love your pumpkin Christine - except it would look better with a Stiller Logo. Yep - it is my kid. She has a hangup. I have tried for years, and she'd get sick with a cold and Poppa would give in and buy her liquid / chewables. I refuse to keep them in stock if they weren't going to be used so he will stop on the way home at the equivient of a gas station and buy name brand stuff at $5-$7 a pop and it will last less than two days and then expect me to get more... I thought it was funny that the idea of practicing with tic-tacs counted as a home remedy...

a Steeler logo would ruin the pumpkin. SHeesh. I kind of want to carve another one this year. Maybe bigger. And get a better photo of it.

Yours works so well because of the orange. In fact, I may pick up the pumpkin sitting on the floor at the house and tell everyone it is a Cleveland Browns jack-o'lantern.

You could send her to my mom. We had fits teaching my older son to take a pill, but he finally got it. The younger one didn't need to learn yet, but he took his first pill at Grandma's. The boys were staying overnight and the little one wasn't feeling well. I don't know what she was thinking but she gave him an extra strength Tylenol and said, "Take it!" He didn't even question her and swallowed it down. He was only 3 so I ended up having to call poison control. Thankfully he was a big guy and they said he'd be fine since he only took the one. I asked him later why he took it when he'd never had a swallow pill before. He said, "Grandma just told me to do it and I did". My mom just has that authoritative way about her.

I used to have massive problems taking the tiniest of meds. I tried to swallow it at the same time as a piece of food. For a long time, that didn't work either, but eventually it did.

Momma_bee ~ have you tried talking to the pharmacist about this? They may well have some ideas of what you can do ~ including whether it's safe to break a capsule open or crush a tablet into some food. But don't try that without speaking to a pharmacist first, because it can be dangerous.

I know - and there is no pill she NEEDS to take. My arguement is if she has a headache, she can take grown up (my term) meds or suffer. When Dad was in the hospital, she had a headache and I had tylenol in the car, but she thought I'd go to the gift shop and get children's meds. I know cold season is around the corner and when we are out, she will be ok until she gets tired then she wants to take something for symptoms, which I get, but she thinks we will carry liquid in the car. Someone will say plan ahead, but I'm a lousy mom.

How old is she??' You're right ... if she has a headache, either swallow the pill or suffer.

Just turned 11 - not that the just turned matters, but 11, all by itself, looked odd... I just don't know - I think we get played quite a bit and I suspect that the one who lets them stay home is wrapped around a little girl's finger...

the one who lets them stay home I'm just guessin' here, but this would be the male half of the parents right? Cuz I know you would never let yourself get wrapped around anybody's finger.
