Okay folks--there is a new rule that each folder can only have 3 active game threads, and right now there are five.

How about we retire the Song titles game, as after 200 pages or so, it has run its course.

The obvious next choice would be the Alphabetical Song Titles game, but I am not sure the Alphabetical Projects game can last as long, so it may be better to close it.

Which do you choose?

Please note: this is a community-wide policy, and isn't really negotiable, so please do not shoot the messenger. Just pick the three games to remain open.

And please do not start new game threads without permission, as one will have to close for each one open.

Thanks.

Ps103: Instead of deleting them, could you transfer them to the games folder for us?

Whether or not that is an option, I vote to keep Hangman, Song Titles Game, and Song Titles (Alphabetical)

Well, the H&G folder is being overhauled as we speak, and they will be limited to six active games at a time, so that wouldn't be an option. Sorry.

Games are slowing the site down, especially when they get hundreds of pages long (as is the case with many in the H&G folder.)

And, since the Hangman game is very long, it might be a good idea to start a new one if that is the most popular game.

How about a new Hangman thread, a new Alphabetical Song Titles thread, and one more?

Since their sheer volume is causing the problem I suggest deleting all game threads and initiating new threads for the ones Daniel mentioned. JMHO

That sounds good to me.

Any other input?

I could go with qtman's suggestion---but I hate to see my post count cut in half.

Ps103, is there any possibility the overload is because of the Roger Bennett story, which is no longer an issue?

Does this affect the SuperFan Polls?

Don't worry--I'm just going to lock the threads, not delete them. By the time they are purged you will have had a whole year to pump your post count in the new threads

And the Roger Bennett thread isn't the problem, as they have been working on this for a long time, now. (The thread will be unpinned on Monday, though. It was just updated with SN's new link--the prior links were temps--so I am leaving it there a few days so people can mark the new link if they wish.)

I wasn't counting them as games, Tina. They are sort of self-limiting to one per month, so I don't think they are a problem. (That can be over-ruled by higher authority, though.)

I see. Those threads never get very long anyway.

On the other hand, maybe we should just get it over with now, and know where we stand now. (But I am awfully close to 10,000 and would like to make it all the way, I must admit.)

True, but even he doesn't have time to do that, they have the system set up to purge after a year of inactivity. :)

The purge is automatic, and will not affect any of the games threads that will be closed until 4/5/08.

Since whatever your post count is at this point was made in a year, I don't think anyone had to worry about anything

Soooo...a new Alphabetical Song Titles game, a new Song Titles game, and a new Hangman game sound cool for everyone?

Sure...unless you'd okay keeping the old ones on those three.

Since we really need to keep the page count down on game threads, it would probably be better to start fresh, I think.

You want to start the new threads, Daniel?

Sure! Thanks, and will do shortly.

I'll give them the same titles as the old ones, or at any rate easy-to-understand titles (rather than "new song titles game" which would invite perpetual questions about name origin.)

Good idea!

I'll clean up behind you and link to the new threads.

Thanks!

Not *your* mess! I meant I would close the old threads and link to the new ones as you get them going
