ORIGINAL: DenimDiva Yesterday they were all in the house running and playing. They were adorable. We aren't keeping the other two, so they are remaining unnamed. However, my seven year old neice will soon be eight- in fact her birthday is in less than two weeks. She keeps telling her mom that she wants another cat. Sis keeps telling her no. She's been told no about 30 times a week for the last five weeks. Finally last night when Sis said no again, my neice looked at her and said: "I'm giving you until my birthday to make up your mind." Awww... you gotta love the logic of kiddos! Sounds like your niece is pretty determined to force her will on others. *giggling* My daughter would be cheering her on, trust me. Tomorrow, they are having a fundraiser here (Woofstock '08) to help our local humane society build new, improved and enlarged facilities. Paislee (who is 5) is wanting to go. They are having a dog walk ($20 entry fee), different contests, face-painting, food, music and a portable dog grooming shop - and of course, the mobile pet adoption unit... I'm wavering between letting Pais take her corgi versus hearing the whining to bring a new dog or cat home... Help!! *giggling*

Woofstock sounds like fun. For those who can't have a pet, it might be a good place to get a *fix* of fur. I wanna see pictures... (bossy ain't I)

thank you. I can be if I wanna be... just ask my students. Too bad the event didn't go well as it could have. It is always tough when you bring animals who don't think like humans. I love the line about the dogs being led around by scary looking teenagers. One of my pooches won The Best Trick award when my daughter brought her to a neighborhood pet show. It was for mutts and kids and my dog won by counting. That was years ago. My sis shoots for dog agility trials and then posts on Photo Reflect. Perhaps the organizers could do something like that next year. But who knows, they are probably grocery buying heathens who pass gas stations wearing blue shirts. Or do they wear blue shirts as they pass the gas station? Or pass gas at the station? I forget.

Students? What do you teach? (Praying it has nothing to do with blue shirts and grocery stores)

Students? What do you teach? This year I am teaching Drama, K- 5th. One of my favorite phrases is "you don't scare me. I teach drama". (generally used when kids fake a pout to try to make me feel bad for saying 'no'.) Left over chicken for dinner tonight, wheeeee, no grocery shopping this Sunday!

The next fundraising event scheduled is a fancy supper at a local hoity-toity restaurant. At $45 per plate, they can count me out... They need to raise a little over $300k to reach their goal and think they will do it in the next six weeks. We'll see what happens. I do know that it has gotten very expensive to adopt - kitties are $110, and doggies are $135. THat is alot of money to raise. Feeding the animals has got to cost alot and vet fees, too. I would hope that the fee includes, spay or neuter and updated shots. It also keeps folks from frivolously adopting and then realizing they shouldn't have. I remember an article about never giving away free kittens. I did give away a kitten to a family. Turned out that they couldn't keep it. I found it wandering around my doorway the next morning, minus the kitten toys that they also took. In the meantime, can we say "Stuff Mart" instead? Ala Veggie Tales? How about WallyWorld?

I found it wandering around my doorway the next morning, minus the kitten toys that they also took. In the meantime, can we say "Stuff Mart" instead? Ala Veggie Tales? How about WallyWorld? It includes microchip insertion, one month health insurance (for certain ailments only) and a spay/neuter at a participating vet's office. However, even if you buy a kitty or puppy that's already been spayed or neutered, the price is the same. No shots are included in the price, except for rabies. It's really discouraging to buy a pet at those prices when there are so many free ones in the local paper, and also for those who think that AKC papers mean something... and sell at prices right above the humane society. More sobering than that - it means a lot of kitties and puppies reach the end of their road when they enter that facility, which is disheartening to me, when simply lowering fees would result in more adoptions, ya know? I really wish them the best in their fundraising endeavors, but I have mixed feelings about the whole thing.

OMgoodness. Now I have to go to work with a straight face. If I go into work grinning from this conversation, how in the world will I be able to explain it and still sound sane?!?
