.... aha! So you did go see a movie, Mike! Good for you!

Hey DS and Trish!

We had a wonderfully long weekend. Hemphill is so beautiful... it is a very very small retirement community on a lake.... there are lots of very tall trees.... nature... sometimes we can even see a fox family...

I had lots of hours to write... I loved it...

Sometimes I wish we could have a cabin there... just to escape life and to relax...

We drove home yesterday through some pretty bad rain...

People here at the University are grouchy... many of them traveled further only to turn around to come back to work today... they are tired. (the public schools and daycares are still closed today)

I hope all are having a wonderful week!

Rach, I'm glad you and the girls had a good time with Dave. It sounds nice up in Hemphill.

Glad you had travelling mercies to and from there on your travels too. With Gustav and Hanna being around, I was asking that you'd all be safe.

You're welcome. John tells me there's 4 more hurricanes coming. Is that true?

There are THREE Tropical Storms in the Atlantic. Rach is by the Gulf of Mexico - totally different bodies of water.

The only one she has to be worried about is Ike - who MAY end up going into the Gulf sometime next week. The rest are all Atlantic storms and of no impact to her area - at all!

Sorry, you know me - I have to put out accurate info where these things are concerned......

My brother-in-law is a missionary. He used to be down in Belize years ago. The village had one telephone. He asked if I could keep an eye on the weather and call if there ever was a threat of a hurricane. Otherwise they had no way of knowing if one was coming. I did have to call once.

I don't remember. It's been a long time ago. I just remember a storm that marched straight across the gulf headed right for them. Probably in the 1990's.

There was Keith in 2000 and Iris in 2001. Before that it was 1978 when one hit there. Sorry about that.....got them mixed up.

Yeah, that was my first thought......the timing was right. All I know is that was one of the most BEAUTIFUL storms I've ever seen!!!!!!!!

I know it impacted Honduras mostly, so wasn't sure about how much Belize got. But, as we all know, you don't have to be in the direct path of the storm to be impacted.

And it makes sense that it had weakened. That's what I remember too.

I was watching out for Gustav. I knew that there was talk of it landing in the US. I also got a prayer email from a snail mail pal of mine in Kingston, Jamaica before Gustav went right over the top of them.

Hey Rach, I did go see a movie, but not this past weekend though, it was the weekend before instead. I am tired, I will be going to bed shortly. I am so glad that tomorrow is already Friday, yeah!

((((( Rach, Dave, girls, Rach's Mom)))))))

Yikes, it's been days since I have been in here so I definitely wanted to drop the hug bomb here today and let you know I may not have posted but I have been thinking of you all.

Now was that an atomic hug bomb, or conventional? Perhaps it was a -seeking missile.

.... Hi guys.

I've been trying to post in here all morning...

I thought I posted in here yesterday... but I didn't!!!

All the banter made me smile... (and laugh!) Thanks to all who've stopped by....

Update on Dave:

He had a very long day at the hospital yesterday.... they did another scan on his brain... and all looks good. He can start working again.... He has a couple of small jobs planned starting today and for next week. I'm glad he's an independant contractor... because then he can control his work flow if working gets too hard on him. The pain he experiences can get pretty bad at times... STILL!

My mom:

She has had a wonderful time on the west coast... she spent time with her cousin (they went to the coast for Labor Day), she visited a bunch of people from the church my dad started, and today - she is traveling back to CA to spend some time with my brother before she heads back to Indiana. She sounds great and is excited to move down to Texas soon...

The girls:

Are doing well... we are getting a late start on homeschooling... mom and I have been doing a bit of 'back and forth' about the curriculum... but I think we are now in agreement and mom is going to (thankfully) order it the first time around. (praises to Jesus!)

I took them swimming last night... and tuckered them out... I think that counts as Gym class, right?

This is an interesting story.

My mom visited a family in Oregon. They were a family who had been at my dad's church since it very first started over 25 years ago. The father is blind. He has a ministry of taping the sermons (yes on cassette tapes) and sharing them with whoever will listen to them (he uses them in Bible studies, sends them to people who are homebound, has even used them in prison ministry).

He played a tape for my mom of my dad preaching a sermon on forgiveness a long time ago. Mom asked him to make a tape for each of my aunts and uncles (eight of them left).

Listening to the tape caused one of my uncles to reconcile with his brother-in-law.... over a longtime running dispute.

My dad's obedience and life is still affecting others even after he's gone.... I want to be like my dad... I want to be like my Father...

Thanks for all the hugs, thoughts, and prayers.... I think of each of you often....

Love always,

Rachel

That IS an awesome story, Rach!!!

When did you decide to homeschool the girls? I think it's great. I've been hs-ing the kiddos for two years now. Texas is a good state for it.

.... Hey Ray, Reach, and Beckey!

My dad was awesome... he started preaching when he was 13....

I decided to homeschool the first day of public school.... the girls came home and were crying... by the time I had heard about their day I was cryin'.... I called Dave and he was like, "Whatever you do... don't send them back!"

I called my mom... and told her I was gonna hs... she was all excited... she has been wanting to hs them for a while now...

I'm glad my mom will be coming (eventually) to help... it will be a challenge because I work... but I believe we will make it a success.

The girls are VERY excited...

That's awesome. There is a plethera of curriculum and resources....don't get too stressed over it. One of the coolest things (IMHO) about hs, is that they can learn about what they are interested in.

I use curriculum for the basic stuff right now phonics/reading, math and bible study. But I try to teach them about other things like science and civics, etc....with resources I find online.

.... How do you know what to teach them if you are finding your own resources?

Like... how do you know when they are ready for the next grade level?

... and how do you show proof of advancement?

(questions I'm afraid to ask in the hs folder! )
