Well Folks, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I can't help but wonder if Christ was thinking there would be all of these denominations when He was praying in the garden of Gethsemene. Please, don't misunderstand me, I'm not personally judging anyone's salvation that has posted here. I just feel such sadness that there have been SO MANY splits in the body of Christ. It grieves my heart. That's just me though.

Where do I attend church? That is the BIG question. No where and everywhere. I am temporarily going through a stage of being churchless. Why? Because the nondenominational church we were members of sang were not united in faith and doctrine. Doctrine was a word to be put on the shelf, which divided Christians.

So each week my husband and I attend a different church. But this has been very tramatic for me and discouraging. Why? Because I long for the Church that the Apostles loved so dearly and to which the martyrs belonged. I long to worship the way our Early Church Fathers worshipped. I long to worship in a church that professes and lives the Nicene and Apostolic Creeds. I long for a church that is imbued with the love of God which emanates throughout the whole community. I long for a church that is timeless and unchanging in spite of the culture that surrounds it. I long for the church that places more emphasis on community worship than "Jesus and me" worship. I long for a church that stresses holy living. I long for a church that prays for one another at all times. I long for a church that recognizes the need, necessity, and important role that scripture has given the church. I suppose I long for a dream that will ever elude me.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

Sorry, I didn't fully edit my post properly. But I'm sure you still got the gist of what I was trying to communicate.

I pray often that Jesus will lead my husband and me to the church He wants us to be in. With all the dissention, disagreement, confusion, and false teaching in our day, that is a tall order I know. But with God, all things are possible.

I attend a non-denominational church; they are on the web at www.church-redeemer.org. Hope it's okay to share the website without violating forum rules? Anyway, Pastor has an AoG background, I think, but genuinely loves the Lord.

I go to a Methodist church, but I believe that there is little differance between denomiations and that as long as we live our lives after the example of Christ, and accept him into our hearts and lives, we all will be saved, no matter what denomination.

Thank you. I long for just the same thing. You have changed my heart.

any denominational suggestions?

You've got about 100 suggestions right in this thread. Everyone will suggest their own denomination.

Indeed it is! And why is it that there are sooooo many options? Wonder what Luther and Calvin would think.

I have wondered about a conference one day in heaven, where Calvin, Wesley, Luther, Arminius, etc. all sit around a table and sort it all out.

Of course, being in heaven, they probably don't care anymore.

But would Wesley and Arminius be the only 2 of the 4 surprised that they made it to heaven?

my family is southern baptist ( I Ran!) I am ok with being a baptist but I didnt agree to a lot of things going on in the southern baptist church (and I was a kid)

Now I go to an Assemblies of God church and I like raising my kids there. If they feel that they want to go a differnt route when they get older, thats fine with me (as long as its still within a church - they know better!)

{I didnt want that "different route comment to get blown out of context}

Between churches, but vaguely committing (with some trepidation) to my old church, Chinese Presbyterian Church in Sydney Australia.

rapturefish, wouldn't that be another big change for you?

It's funny reading this over a year later... actually it's not really funny at all. It was a big change and I wasn't ready to try churches at the time. And I'm still recovering. I left the CPC and tried other churches, including Hillsong, a Third-Wave one called Dayspring, and a charismatic/middle-ground church in the city. And I tried other churches along the way. Many starts and recoiling in pain at the idea of church.

Currently I'm trying out one of the branch churches of CPC which is less conservative in nature and hopefully is a nice middle place. I know people there from various circles so that is a plus.

Honestly I just don't know anymore with churches. I'm not abandoning my faith or the church, but I'm floating in a spiritual sense - I'm just depressed and numb to a lot of things. But it takes time to recover from church-related hurts, and I trust this will lead to good things. Nothing is ever wasted.

I guess you call my church a Messianic congregation we probably are non-denominational.
