I read the article.... no hard evidence... just a theory. I have decided for myself to be as wise using the cups as I was with tampons. I'll make sure to wear them no longer than the proscribed time periods and watch for signs or symptoms. I think for women that do not have a high risk or history of endometriosis, they are not proven to be any more dangerous. For me, the (presumed/theoretical) risk is worthwhile. (I can only speak for myself) I will be an educated consumer of the product.

I know it's all theory and I really like the cups, but since I already have scar tissue and have been checked for endo once, I think I'll just use them sparingly for now. My annual exam is coming up soon & I plan to talk to my dr. about it.

What was the "Diva debacle" that someone mentioned earlier? I have a Diva Cup, and I'm pretty sure I ordered it from a lady in Colorado....or maybe it was Vancouver. Anyway, what is the whole debacle thing about?

That was me. The info is on the Keeper site, I think. The gal who started Diva used to be a distributor for Keeper. She essentially stole their design and did various other questionable things. There is a law suit in progress. ETA: I can't find a smidge of info on the Keeper site or elsewhere on the 'net. I don't think I'm losing my mind, but I KNOW it happened! Also, I found info about the Keeper not being acceptable in Canada, but mine came from there and the other Jen in here lives there. Then someone said you couldn't get the Diva in Canada, but it is Health Canada approved. Sheesh, sure is hard to winnow out the truth sometimes!

My Diva has "made in Canada" embossed in the inside of it!! Anyways, I've been using mine for the first time these last couple days. There is definitely a learning curve for getting it in there! And I thought it would be easy cuz I've used a diaphram, disposable mentrual cups, and tampons in the past. I think my Diva may actually be too big... I am over 30 and married, but I've never had a baby. I got the larger of the two sizes based on the website, but when I push it in as far as it will go, the stem is still right at the very entrance. It doesn't move during the day or anything, but when I wipe, my skin catches there and it hurts! Before anyone suggests it, I did cut the stem...almost all the way off...and it's still RIGHT THERE! I guess I will check the website and see if the smaller one is just smaller in diameter or also smaller in length. The wiping is the only time I can feel it and it does have great protection against leaks...

I am ready to move to the diva cup from the Instead. I mentioned that my cervix is a bit tipped and that I can feel it catching when I remove it. It works great otherwise and if I remember to do my kegel type things doesn't catch that much at all but I wanna move on now. I will likely get mine in november. ~ezri

ORIGINAL: jln2boys And you are folding it first? Definitely! I make the U shape just like the instructions say and put the curved side in first and aim toward the back. I've tried pushing it in both before and after letting it open. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it just isn't going any higher. I would like it to be in at least half an inch so I can't feel it at all from the outside. I really do have to be careful how I wipe or it's not pleasant!!

Are you a virgin? I know that's a rude question, lol, but I just can't imagine how it's not going in further. Mine must be at least an inch or more from the, um, exit point.

Don't worry, I'm not offended!!! I've been married for 5 years though :) And my dh is definitely...um...larger than this silly cup, so I don't know what's up either! I had to reach way inside when used the Instead cups, so it's not that I'm timid with getting my hands dirty so to speak. I looked on the site and found that the smaller one is the same length as the larger. There is just the slight difference in diameter.

Perhaps you could try a different position? I mean, if you could get the Instead up higher...this just doesn't make sense. I wish I could help you, lol, but I'm fresh out of latex gloves. Sorry, bad joke. Are you pushing from the bottom rather than holding the middle until you can't reach anymore?

LOL.... I feel like I've pushed it every which way....standing, sitting, from the middle, from the bottom..... I guess I will practice some more before I go to bed tonight :) Maybe I need to re-read the instructions....

Littlewing, You might have to trim it. I had to trim the little tip thingy off mine almost completely because I was having the same problem. The tip is scored for trimming and there are directions somewhere - maybe on the web-site? IIRC, the only thing about trimming is that you cannot return it once trimmed. Another thought might be the angle you are inserting. My uterus is tipped forward so that when I insert the Diva cup, it goes in at an angle (headed toward my bellybutton, not toward my back) and the tip rests just inside and leaning up against the back wall. I think most women insert toward the back, not toward the front.

I have already trimmed the stem to almost non-exsistent!! :) The little nub is still right at the entrance, but it stays put all day. Before bed, I am going to take it out one more time and put it back in. You have hit on something that may help me though! An ob-gyn did tell me once that I would have more comfort during sex ( I was having pain issues at the time) if my dh would aim toward the left so maybe I need to try that. I really am enjoying the ease and convenience and non-leakage!!!!

Well, I went kind of left-ward today and it went up about 1/2 inch further (when standing). When sitting it is still pretty much right at the entrance, but not catching my delicate skin anymore, so I am very happy. It stays in the same place all day and doesn't leak...yippee!! I think I am good to go :) Christsstar, Maybe you need to do kegels? It seems weird that yours "travels" like that. Then again, it's kind of weird that I can't get mine in any further when I know there is room up there :)

Oh, I was wondering about one little thing... Is it hard for you all to rotate your diva cup? I feel like mine isn't turning unless I rotate my wrist around more than it goes....

Oh, well good :) I was worried that I would have leakage if I didn't get it to turn. I'm just going to let it open and not worry about the turning part and see what happens. I only have two days left on this cycle....woo-hoo!! By the way, has anyone else been really shocked to see what the stuff that comes out actually looked like? Mine seems to be really sticky and viscous. Is that normal?? It kind of clings to everything and makes strings like when you try to grab a slice of hot pizza.... I am really, really sorry if that grosses anyone out.

Well, although I've never compared it to pizza, mine does that, too, lol.

Well, I had thought of other comparisons but I thought they would be gross :)

Boy I feel like I've been gone for forever from this thread. Landabee - so it's been almost 2 months since I said I would post my comparison and I don't have much to tell at the moment to compare the Diva Cup and the Instead. Hopefully tomorrow. My last period started the day I left on my holidays. I had put in an Instead (had a bit of a struggle with that) and it was ok but I didn't have much flow at all to deal with. Because I was doing a driving road trip for a number of hours I took it out at one stop and put in my Diva since I knew that would work for me. Never tried the Instead again. Well today, I am on day 2 of my period so when I get home after work I'm going to remove my Diva and try and Instead and see if it goes better this time around. I consistently have trouble with the Diva leaking at night on my heavy flow day but that's about it. So maybe Friday I can have a better report for you. I think this could take a bit of practise though. And for those who posted about their suprise at their bodily fluids and how they appeared .... ditto for me.

Egg whites.... Only red/brownish depending on the day of the cycle. That's what I'd say it reminds me of and yeah, I was suprised. If you get a blob of it going the rest is gonna follow. ~ezri
