Which is interesting, since you have to touch yourself to use a tampon too. At least to some extent.

I still say, I'm MUCH cleaner with the cup than pads and tampons. Even when I leak.

Useful tip of the day:

If it's a day you know you'll be using a Diva cup, avoid chopping jalapenos and habaneros unless wearing disposable rubber gloves.

Don't ask me how I know......

yeah- a few lady friends with Keepers said that going from a 2 finger tug on a string the more hands on approach of the cup was a bit of a put off at first. Me? I got used to the Instead cup before I made the investment in the Diva so I got that trial by blood over with quick and was very well pleased that the Diva was CLEANER! In my experience the instead cup ALWAYS got me. But then i have a tipped cervix and it "caught" on it nearly every time I'd pull it out.

I have had my diva since Nov 2005 and I have gotten to where I can empty in a public restroom discreetly and with very little flow on my fingers at all if any. yeah- it took practice but it is possible. I will admit that first cycle with the instead was a blood bath. I had to not only clean my hand but the toilet seat and in a few cases the floor as well.

Taking out tampons hurts. I hate it. It's awkward and gross. And since you're holding the string (often times covered in blood), not the tampon, you don't have nearly as much control over it.

My hubby has rubbed his eyes after cutting peppers and says how much that hurts- I can't imagine getting it down below!

I went from pads only to a diva cup, and didn't find the mess to be too bad. The shower is a good place to start out (despite my trouble with getting a seal there), because any mess just goes right down the drain. I can empty my cup in a public bathroom with no trouble- I just wipe my hands off before I leave the stall, and wash them carefully.
Besides that, its so much more comfortable! At one point I tried to use up the last of my disposable pads, and the itching nearly did me in!

I'm with you Stacy.

i went from tampon/pads to cup/liner. I flow too much the first couple days to NOT wear a liner. I just can't get it right otherwise.

I do 99% of my cleaning out in a shower. Although that may change. My current shower doesn't drain right and it's kinda hard to empty it so that it does drain, and gross when I'm unsuccessful.

I can do it in a public restroom, but prefer not. I just have too much. But I keep a bottle of water and wipies at my desk at work for such an occassion.

See for me, its not the taking it out and dumping that makes a mess, no matter how full it is (unless its overflowed and leaky). One thing that helps with that (I can't believe I'm posting this online) is to make sure your pants/shorts are pushed as far down as possible so you can spread your legs apart as far as possible.
I use cloth pads as a backup for when I overflow/leak or just wind up messy for some reason.

I don't usually have issues dumping it either. I just overflow my cup the first couple days. I have a theory why, I just can't bring myself to put words to my theory.

Hi guys,

Mind if I join you?

I've been lurking around this thread for a whle and have been curious about getting one of these menstrual cups. And after reading this thread and info online and even hearing about it on a podcast called "Manic mommies" - although they weren't crazy about it. I decided to invest in the Keeper and just got it this week. Just in time to cause I'll be getting my period this weekend. I usually have heavy periods and was looking for an alternative to tampons/pads so this looks like something that I might benefit from.

It's great that Christian women can talk openly and honestly about things like this. You've given me a wealth of info and shared so many experinece and I'm hoping I'll have success with this new thng.

Blessings

Angela

Just remember to give it time angela- it is not a pop and go thing- there is a learning curve. Don't be discouraged.

The directions say insert and spin to form the seal. I never have been able to spin the thing. It doesn't even pop fully open while/when inserting. I usually have to get up and walk around a bit then re-visit the bathroom to check to be sure it opened. I can only think of a handfull of times since 2005 that I have gone back in and it NOT be open and where it needed to be.

Praying your experience goes well.

I can't spin it either, but after I stand up, I can usually feel it pop open.

And you might want to wear a liner for your first cycle.

I can turn my Diva. I would be afraid to stand up and wait for it to pop open.

I can rotate mine. But I think mine is too far up, which is why it leaks so much.

Thanks for the tips guys! Oh I definitely planned on actually wearing a regular thin pad for just to be safe. I actually wear one when I use tampons.. Yeah it's that bad . So, I'm hoping this will help in that department as well. Here's hoping I'm a fast learner

Well after watching a few instructional videos on youtube I felt confident enough to go ahead and do it. And I think I did it? I have to say it felt a little weird at first, but, not terribly uncomfortable. So we'll see if I've done it correctly when I check later. Thanks all

Ditto. I can tell by the way it feels when I turn and tug on it whether I have a good seal or not. Mine sometimes sits up fairly high (to the point that I have trouble grabbing the stem), but it doesn't seem to correlate with whether or not it leaks.

I NEVER grab mine by the stem to pull it out. The stem is so small I just can't imagine getting a good grip on it to pull the cup out. I physically grab the bottom of the cup and pull it out slowly, and tilt it as I'm pulling it out so it dumps into the toilet or down teh drain.

I grab it by the bottom of the cup, too.

I do the bottom of the cup too- I love the little ridges on the Diva. There have been a few times that it would go up high and I'd have to use the stem(never cut a micron offa mine) to get it down where I could get the bottom of the cup. I am one of those "how much is there" kinda gals. I have even thought of keeping a little note pad with the amounts in it. The diva has markings with the mililiters in it. BUT I never have.

I can't imagine not cutting the stem. I took quite a lot off mine! Since then it has also broken.

This is more what I meant when I said I grab the stem.

I have to say that removing the Keeper has been very the most difficult part . Putting it in wasn't so hard especially since I used that other way of folding (origami fold I think they call it?) instead of the c-fold. And it goes right in. But getting it out...OUCH! It's hard to get a grip on the stem and I find it hard to even grab the bottom to squeeze the cup itself . And forget about the PAIN when I do remove it I actually had to just go in the tub to get it out. I've only worn it twice haven't worn it again since I'm intimidated by having to remove it. But I don't want to give up since I found that I didn't have problems with leekage. Any tips?

When mine gets really stuck, removing it is easier if I lean WAY forward to pull it out. Sometimes I do just have to grit my teeth and do it. I know pinching the bottom (or sticking your finger up high enough to get it under the rim) is supposed to help break the seal.
