Christstar - that's what I do and maybe that's why we have leakage problems? Maybe we need to be letting it pop open like the previous poster did and then push it up. Here's the short response DivaCup sent me. I'm going to write back and ask them about it (see the bolded line that seem to indicate you and I got it wrong). I got my period yesterday and have been having trouble with leakage this morning (actually more trouble getting it to open up fully). I'm frustrated today because of it. quote:
I have attached a copy of our new user guide below. You might have received one of the older user guides and they are not as detailed as our new ones. I also have a few suggestions for you. Always make sure that you are aiming towards the tailbone and not straight up like a tampon. It is important to have it in the right position to not create any leakage. With your vaginal muscles relaxed gently separate you labia with your free hand. First insert the rounded part of the "U" into your vaginal opening while aiming towards your tailbone (aiming horizontally) and push it the rest of the way in still aiming straight back. Once you have most of it in, make sure that you do a full rotation to ensure that it is fully opened and that it will create a good seal so that it does not leak. If you still experience leakage after following these directions, please let us know.

yeah ... I think that's what I'm doing. Some days I leak A LOT more than others. If it's just a little leakage (which seems to be not so much leakage but maybe leftovers) I am less concerned.

I use the keeper and have loved it. It was a bit tricky at first, but once I got the hang of it, it made my periods much less of an inconvenience. It's SO nice not having to go to the store at the last minute for pads or tampons because I forgot to replenish my supply.

I think I'm getting the hang of this thing. In the quote above it says to "push it straight back". There is where I was going wrong. Goes in like a charm when I do that. I've also been letting it pop open and rotate before pushing it all the way in and that seems to to do the trick too. Of course I only had problems on the first full day of my period and now that day has passed so the rest of the week should be a breeze.

anne-girl - I know what you mean. Ok I got my reply back from the DivaCup people. Boy have they been helpful! I should've contacted them months ago. hee hee Here are the key things I was doing wrong and today all is going so much smoother and pain/leak free. Hopefully this will help the rest of you out too. I'm copying from the quote above from DivaCup with a few adjustments based on what they email me back today. I've bolded the parts where I had been going wrong. quote:
First insert the rounded part of the "U" into your vaginal opening while aiming towards your tailbone (aiming horizontally). Once you have most of it in, make sure that you do a full rotation to ensure that it is fully opened and that it will create a good seal so that it does not leak. Then push it the rest of the way in still aiming straight back. I hope that helps those of you who are having some troubles.

I want to try the Moon cup or diva cup or so forth. My impression is that it covers the cervix, sort of like a diaphram, right? Right now I am trying the Instead cup which is a disposable but it doesn't cover the cervix like a cap, it sits underneath it, sort of. I think that is the difference (besides the disposability) between the two. Is that correct? Has anyone used these before? Second question: I'm pretty sure I have it in right, and the presure is sort of turning me on a little - is this normal? I can't actually feel it, but I'm sort of turned on anyway, for absolutely no other reason. Again - is this normal? anyone else have this happen?

It doesn't cover the cervix. It actually sits a lot lower than the Instead cup. It just catches the flowage.

Maybe you have it rubbing against your g-spot. I have not experienced that at all. I was telling my husband all about my diva cup, and strangely, he wasn't turned on by it... hee hee......his reaction was quite the opposite. I remembered someone on this thread posted that her hubby looked a little scared when she told him about it...my hubby had that "deer in the headlights" look about him too.....

Oh I would never have intimate relations with my hubby during sex. I just don't think God really designed us that way. And I think the break can open up different routes to intimacy and closeness :) So glad to hear the cup is working for you, karen! Yeah the only time I felt my MoonCup and experienced leakage was when I hadn't pushed BACK. with my tampons I was pushing more... UP and I was so used to that motion that i forgot to aim differently. I have to boil mine and I hope that goes well! don't want to melt the thing ;)

Actually, the Instead instructions say that you can't wear it during sex, and I can't even imagine trynig it - especially b/c when i tried to take it out the first time and I "bumped" it, it spilled. Yuck! Sorry if that's TMI. I think I'm going to try either the Diva cup or the Moon Cup. I really liek the Instead - I can't even feel it in anymore, and I love not having to worry about it - but it's hard to take out. It fits in like a tray, with nothing but the side to pull on, so it's sort of difficult to take out without using two fingers to pull it, which isn't really that comfortable.

I'm sorry - I was totally wrong! You CAN have sex w/ the Instead cup in. That makes me happy. I really do want to get one of the others, though. Is the Moon Cup, Diva cup? I can't access the moon cup website right now - my work blocks it for some reason.

The mooncup is the same as the Keeper. The diva cup is Canadian.

If you like Instead, you'll probably like Diva cup better...it's silicone as opposed to rubber.

If you want the Diva cup, get it off eBay from a seller named mom4life. she does free shipping. at least, mine was free shipping. she's an actual affiliate so you'll still get the guarantee.

I just got my Diva Cup! I've been using the Intead disposable cups for a week and I loved them so I ordered a Diva Cup from nuturedfamily.com (w/ free shipping) and it arrived yesterday (two days after I ordered it - rave for nuturedfamily!). So far, I'm not sure how much I like the Diva Cup. It was uncomfortable to insert the first 2 times, but not bad - the second time was better than the first. It was very uncomfortable to remove. I didn't need to trim the stem, which was good, but I had a hard to gripping the stem and the bottom of the cup to take it out. I kept catching myself with my fingernail (ouch!). But while it was in I didn't feel it, and it was easy to clean, so I'm going to keep trying it. Any advice on how to remove the cup more easily? Any tricks ? Do you think I'm pushing it in too far?
