Finally, an "official" place to re-ask my question. Which song holds the current record for the most posts on your Song Titles Game thread?

I will answer that one the next time I have three hours to browse the SN website with nothing else to do!

That may be soon, maybe not. I don't know.

As for the future of this thread: I will try to answer all Southern Gospel history and trivia questions. As for all other questions, I won't guarantee that I'll try to answer them.

So if you want to ask me what color I dyed my hair the other day, ask in the chat thread!

[It's still the same color. I'm just joking.]

Did you read the disclaimer I put in light yellow? Here is is in black: "[It's still the same color. I'm just joking.]"

I wouldn't ever think of dying my hair.

And now that I've got that out of my system, we return to our scheduled programming: I will try to answer all Southern Gospel history and trivia questions. As for all other questions, I won't guarantee that I'll try to answer them.

A word from one who knows....... be careful about what you say you won't ever do!!! You may be surprised how you'll feel when every hair on your head starts turning a different shade of gray!

I guess they say, "Never Say Never," but in all honesty--have you ever seen a 65-year-old with spiked purple hair?

No need to apologize--I sort of started it.

Are there any Southern Gospel history questions on your mind?

You know, I really should have called this thread, "Ask Daniel" or "Ask Dr. History" or something like that. Oh well.....

What was the name of the group that started in Tampa Florida and eventually became the Rebels? I believe that J.D. Sumner and Arnold Godwin was with them, but I may have the groups mixed up. I recall a group when I was about 5 years old (I'm now 65), that came to our church and was sponsored by Dixie Lily, and I believe they were called "The Sunny South Quartet". It seems to me that this was the group I am asking about.

Daniel, I didn't intend to give you a case of "reader's cramp" with my question about the song titles game. I was just trying to have a little fun with you. Now for a real question, I watch a show called "Gospel Sampler" on the RFD network on Directv every week. It was originally shot in the early 90's I think. J D Sumner and the Stamps appear on there sometimes, and I cannot figure out the identity of their tenor singer. Can you shed any light?

I don't think the good Dr. will mind me jumping in for this one.....the tenor singer you are most likely referring to is Rick Strickland. He joined JD and the Stamps in 1992 and was with them until JD passed away. He then sang with Ed Enoch & Golden Covenant after that. Here is a link to his website to double check:

Not to take Daniel's job away, but the other day, he provided a link to http://www.grandolegospelreunion.com/, where John Crenshaw writes a monthly article profiling one of the old groups. His September 2003 article is about the Rebels Quartet and the group(s) from which they sprang, including the Sunny South Quartet, sponsored by Dixie Lily Flour company, so you were right!

zzzzzzzzzz
