Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum so I hope you don't mind me jumping in the middle of some threads. I like to read so talking about good books is one of my favorite subjects. I'm currently reading the following:

Neutral Buoyancy: Adventures in a Liquid World by Tim Ecott
It's about the history of scuba diving and underwater exploration with a little biographical material. Good read.

Mere Creation: Sceince, Faith & Intelligent Design edited by William Dembski
This is a well researched book drawing from some of the best scientific minds. I'm especially interested in Hugh Ross' section containing details of the Fine Tuning of the universe and Michael Behe's "Irreducible Complexity".

No Little People by Francis A. Schaeffer
Francis A. Schaeffer has been my favorite Christian authors, philosophers, theologians for some time now and I've recently finished reading his complete works. No Little People were really set up as a series of sermons to be shared out loud with a group. My wife likes me to read them to her in the car. Very good read!

The Gagging of God: Christianity Confronts Pluralism by D.A. Carson
This one can seem a bit overwhelming at first glance because it's rather thick but don't be scared. One of the most thorough works on the subject and the as-to-be-expected quality that comes from the pen of D.A. Carson.

"bait of satan" ???? That's how I would describe Rick Warren and Gloria Copeland's books too

You live in the Twin Cities yes? Bob DeWaay is a local guy, he's written a good response to "The Purpose Driven Life" movement:

Redefining Christianity - Understanding the Purpose Driven Movement by Bob DeWaay

I'm not saying don't read Benny Hinn, Rick Warren, etc., etc. but take some time to look at both sides of an issue and be like the Bereans in Acts who searched the Scriptures to see if these things are true.

Here's some other stuff of Bob DeWaay's that goes along with this:
Redefining Christianity Radio Broadcasts

And here's a great radio show, "A Look at the Prosperity Gospel", by the Apologetics.com team that I'm sure you will find very interesting.

Many blessings!

I just purchased the following at the thrift store:

Rescuing Sprite by Mark Levin
Lord Foulgrin's Letters by Randy Alcorn
Inside the Kingdom, My Life in Saudi Arabia by Carmen Bin Ladin (the former sister-in-law of Osama)
A Greater Freedom, Stories of Faith from Operation Iraqi Freedom, executive editor Oliver North, stories by Sara Horn

I'm really looking forward to reading Inside the Kingdom. That should be fascinating.

I love thrift stores! You can find the best books there!

Martin's current series, A Song of Ice and Fire, is a fantasy series loosely based on the wars of the roses (1461-1487 iirc). It is much more evocative of the Middle Ages than most other fantasy, but Martin's inspiration comes from one of the darkest periods of the Middle Ages, and reflects that time at its worst. The books are, quite frankly, grim. There is a great deal of adult content - graphic violence and a lot of foul language, sexual reference and some graphic sex - and it isn't for the faint of heart. What he really has going for him is that he handles a large and disparate cast of characters superbly, and the work really resonates with me and apparently with other people familiar with English history.

Book five is supposed to come out next year, so I'm rereading the first four right now.

Hi Faroukfarouck,

Thanks for asking...Actually, I just started the book and am still trying to understand the various characters. The caption on the back of the book reads:

'She is a Supreme Court Justice.
She is an atheist.
And she is about to encounter the God of the truth and justice she has sworn to uphold'

Sounded interesting...so we'll see

I just finished Sister's Ink (four sisters were adopted by a pastor and his wife, the story focuses on one sister. the next book in the series focuses on another sister) and have started a book called Healing Stones (a Christian woman gets caught in the act of adultry and it follows her as she heals and her marriage heals - i assume her marriage is going to be healed but I haven't got that far yet).

Gosh, its been a while since I checked this thread:

I'm currently reading:

Tokens of Trust, by Rowan Williams
(Excellent book, dripping with wisdom on some tough-to-understand Christian topics, for me anyway)

and

Father Joe, by Tony Hendra
(biography of a very wayward guy and the monk he is drawn to who keeps God working in his life)

I just finished the first 2 books in Mel Odom's NCIS series, Paid In Blood and Blood Evidence. They were both pretty good books. I'm starting now on a book by Jason Elam (former kicker for the Denver Broncos) and Steve Yohn called Monday Night Jihad. It's about a former soldier who's now playing pro football, but has to go back to his Special Ops unit because of terrorist threats. Looks like it could be a real good one.

A finally got a copy of Leif Enger's new novel So Brave, Young, and Handsome. Enger wrote one of my favorite mainstream Christian books Peace Like a River. The new one looks to be a cowboy tale so I'm sitting back and enjoying it so far.

When I need something a bit more girl power I'm reading Becoming Madame Mao by Achee Min, a novelization of Jiang Chang's life (Chairman Mao's wife and one of the Gang of Four).

I am re-reading for the third time, Wayne Cordeiro's book, The Divine Mentor -- Growing Your Faith as You Sit at the Feet of the Savior. It's a splendid resource book on the devotional life.
