I've been sick for the last couple of days and today, I decided to go to the doctor and grabbed a book to take with me while waiting (don't believe what Micheal Moore said about us not having any waiting line in Canada. Even with appointments, I always have to wait a minimum of 2 hours, but sorry, I digress, that's not really my point, lol).

Anyway, the book I grabbed in my library is called Disappointment with God by Phillip Yancey. I bought it on sale 10 years ago or so but never read it or even open it. For some reason, I never gave it away either which I often do when I'm not interested in the book.

As I sat there for hours reading the first 100 pages of the book (yes, it was a loooong wait), I was really really touched by the way Yancey portrayed God's character. How He loved us, and time and time again, God could have used his power to draw us near Him, but He didn't. He didn't want to force us to love Him. He loves us so much and He hurts so much whenever he pursued us but we kept fleeing from HIm. All He wanted is for us to love him in return. Wow. I was blown away.

One of the chapters asked "what difference does Jesus make to our feelings of disappointment with God? How does it help us to learn that he too tasted disappointment?" I think after reading a few chapters and really learning about who God is, how much He's pursued us and we keep turning away from Him, hearing those questions made me look at the times when I felt "disappointed, even betrayed" by God. When I look at the times I've rejected Him, I can't imagine how much hurt I've caused God when all He's done all along is pursue me. I probably didn't think that He was pursuing me, but I wouldn't be where i am in my faith journey if God had stopped pursuing me.

I'm so thankful for the hours I sat in the Doctor's office while God gave me a glimpsed of who He is. I guess if I had read the book a few years ago, it wouldn't' have touched me as much as it did today. God's timing is just mind blowing.

What, did he get hit by a car there or something?

Wow. What's with all the Tesh bashing? It seems inappropriate for this thread... especially when I personally have valid reasons to be thankful for him.

Praise God Prairie Hiker! I too read that book a couple of years ago while I was riding back and forth to work on the subway. At the time I was so angry with God over some unanswered prayers and pain that I was going through in my life. I was so hurt by God that I couldn't even pray. Today, I am so glad that he didn't answer. That book helped me so much - it "unclogged" me - so to speak - and made me so grateful to God. Yes, his timing is perfect!

I hope you are feeling better.

Yeah, this book is really speaking to me about who God is. I mean, I've studied mostly systematic theology for the last few months, while this book is teaching me more about how God loved us from the very start. Very very uplifting.

And congrats and good luck on your new job!

It's mine! It's mine! It's all mine!!!

I received the title to my van today!! No more car payments!!!!

This is the very first vehicle I have ever bought on my own. I didn't have anyone with me when I was shopping for it. My brother gave me some advice about what to look for before I went out to the car lot but I was by myself. It's not perfect but its working and IT'S MINE!!!

Many praises and thanks to God!

Amen & Amen!!

Trials are hard... and even tho I don't like those trials, I'm thankful for them, for the Lord continues to teach me -- yeah, sometimes I think I must have a very hard head & don't learn it like I should.. but the Lord is so good to me! He lets me learn on my own curve! and I am always learning new things about Him & His love for me!

I'm thankful for several things today.

First, I've been trying to do some things to improve my health, which includes exercising and losing the excess weight that I've been carrying around for years. I was complaining to myself about how difficult it has been. But yesterday, I was watching several programs on television about super obese people (Some people were 500 - 700 lbs) who were so addicted to food that they could only gain, not lose weight. While I'm nowhere near any of those weights, it was so heartbreaking and there were no solutions offered. It made my weight loss seem so insignificant in comparison. But mostly, I never thought that just having the motivation to lose weight or just being able to exercise self-control was something to be thankful for - but it truly is.

I'm in a smaller clothing size now - so shopping was a true pleasure yesterday.

I'm also thankful for my new job. I thought that God said "no" to any sort of music ministry for me so I just focused on other things. But, suddenly - I am a working actor/singer. Only God can do something like that - is all I can say. It is challenging - for sure - but I'm so thankful for it.

Well - gotta go - I have to wake up early tomorrow morning!
