not sure if this is appropriate....but here goes.....

60 Minutes Correspondent Andy Rooney (CBS)

As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, 'What are you thinking?' She doesn't care what you think. If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting. Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it. Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated. Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart. Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one. You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her. Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize. For all those men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

Andy Rooney is a really smart guy!

LOL ... I appreciate Andy Rooney myself!

I viewed turning 40 as a GOOD thing for many reasons

Getting old is more of a state of mind (even when my arthritis flares up, but I've had that since I was 13, so I don't view it as age related)

Sounds good, doesn't it?!

That reminds me though, my brother's 2nd wife was a few years older than him, on one of her birthdays (can't remember which, maybe 50?) she told him he could get "collector plates" for her now! My brother was into old experienced cars! Ya gotta have a sense of humor about these things too.

Hi Ray and Joy - welcome to the 40's thread and to singles!

Yeah, many of us are in the same situation of never having been married. For me, I don't even really think about it much any more - because God is using me in ways I never expected, and if I was married, this wouldn't be happening. So, I'm happy about being single right now! I have a GREAT life, as I've recently been told.

For ME? Yes, 56 and single. I have a happy, though very confined life. I live in the country, so there is no saying I should get out and meet other singles. It's always been a puzzlement to me why I never met someone, but I keep busy with work and interests, so I don't spend much time brooding about it. I look at my parents, who are married 59 years this week and still hold hands and call each other endearments. Mom is in a late stage of Alzheimer's and is now in a home, but Dad drives the 50 miles twice a week to see her and feed her lunch and read her mail to her. She cries from sentimentality, and he sings lines from old 1940's love songs. Seeing them, I can't think that I'm past the need for a husband. I would love to grow old with someone.
