Let me help you out...

I posted that my friend Kevin told me at a recent concert in Gainesville, GA that he was to be Gold City's new drummer -and that they were putting a band back together. He didn't say whether it was for ALL dates or for SELECT dates. I didn't think to ask. We'll need to wait for clarification in the form of an official press release, or-- if you feel froggy - contact the GC office and ask. I will say that I got the feeling it was for ALL dates. I do know that if this 'news' wasn't for public knowledge, he wouldn't have told me. It certainly wasn't presented as a secret thing. He was certainly excited, and was telling several people about it. Because he's such an awesome guy -- and the fact that he has been hiding in the studio lately -- we were all happy to see him going back out on the road.

When I asked about the bass player, he told me who had rehearsed with them. This individual has been known to play select dates for another group in the last few months. "I" suggested - and it was ONLY a suggestion - that it was possible that this group didn't yet know his intentions, so I didn't feel at liberty to divuldge the bass player's name. Kevin seemed to be under the impression, that BOTH jobs were a done deal, though.

Furthermore, it was my understanding that GC was about to issue a press release in the next few days, anyway, so I felt comfortable with making a post on here as to the FACT that was given by my friend. I received some public and private remarks about my post, so I kinda dropped it.

Now, if I read right, someone (I think Brandon Coomer) contacted the GC camp, and they confirmed that there was a new band on the way. As far as I can tell, though, there's NOT been an actual press release. As we all know, they are not always released in a timely fashion. For instance, the announcement of DMB's tenor's May wedding was just released a week or so ago.
We've discussed that sort of thing before. It's just the way it is.

Again, PLEASE know that I wouldn't have mentioned ANY of this, if I didn't feel that it had been OK to mention it. It's just NOT my style.

Yes, I contacted Gold City and had it confirmed that the band was reforming.

After I posted to my blog, other people contacted me and gave me names. Initially, I posted the names to my blog. After I an hour or so, I felt like I should have checked with Gold City first, so I took the names off my post. I then contacted Gold City again, told my contact that I had been given names, and asked if it was ok to post. I was told that the members of the band where not yet official and that they would appreciate it if the names where not posted until everything was confirmed. Out of courtesy, I kept the names off the blog.

FYI: Kevin has been following this thread, and he emailed me today to say that the band will only perform at select dates at this point.

It is my understanding that the first date was right about the time they were doing something in Gatlinburg...I'm thinking it may even be this coming weekend... Just don't know for sure.

Kinda surprised that there's NOT been an official statement of any kind yet... Hope it didn't fall through.

For those planning on seeing Gold City at Silver Dollar City on the 30th.........

Have I got news for you!

The BAND will be there!

We just got back from hearing the Mark Trammell Trio and the Blackwood Brothers Quartet this evening. At the end of the concert, Gary Longstaff mentioned that Gold City will have their band with them tomorrow!

(of course, I'll be there too!)

Silver Dollar City just announced that Gold City will have their new band with them at the concert (inside SDC) Saturday August 30.

I was at Silver Dollar City tonight, when they announced it. The concert starts at 7 pm.

I say it is going to be the best Gold City concert in a lonnnnggg time. I'm definitely going!!! I'll take pictures.

Just got home from the Gatlinburg Gathering where Gold City's new Band of Gold made their debut. More tomorrow after I sleep but the line up is (of course) Josh Simpson on piano, Kevin Allison on drums, Taylor Barnes on bass, and Doug Addison on guitars and misc. Doug played rhythm and electric guitars tonight but he can play other instruments (the fiddle was mentioned) as well. Please forgive any misspelled names.

Are you sure the guitar picker's name was Doug Addison? Could that have been Daniel Addison? Daniel used to play with Jeff & Sheri, and is a very close friend of Kevin (and it's actually "Albertson", by the way, Brandon). They have worked together for YEARS in many recording studios in the Southeast.

Also --

FYI: Early on, I didn't want to mention Taylor's name. He had been playing for Old Paths on a PT basis. For those that may not know, Taylor played bass for The Hoppers a short while back in the late 80s. He's a great guy! I'm proud of him and Kevin, both. And if the utility picker is truly Daniel Addison... Let's just say it like this... The Band of Gold IS some kind of BACK!!!!!!!

Thanks, JChaz. You are right. I got the first name mixed up (it was almost 2 AM!) and I must have misunderstood the last name. Thanks for the correction.

Pictures.... yes. Good pictures.... not that many. A couple of them are decent. Our seats were in the back and my camera only has a 3x optical zoom. I'll post a couple to my blog sometime today.

Cool!
Matt, you really need to download all of the songs though!
But "I Cast My Bread Upon The Water" is still good.

PS: you should download: In My Robe of White and John Saw!

I must say, this is a real shocker! But a good one!

I've been saying for years that they're just not the same without a band, and now they have one!

Kudos to GC for getting one back up and running!! It will add so much to their presentations. I sure hope they'll all be at NQC next week.

Have they done away with all the extra instruments via track, or does the band play along with the other instruments? I know I have seen groups with just piano players who still have the elaborate instrumental arrangements, and just have the piano player playing along with it.
The oddest thing was the Brooklyn Tab. Choir that is always singing back up with BFA on "Long as I got King Jesus"!!! hehe

I always thought it was cool to see the Kingsmen live, because the live band sound, had different intros and really sounded different than the CD muscians, with their real fancy intros.

They actually only use tracks on certain songs to add parts (example: Midnight Cry uses a track just to add strings). Most of the time, it's all live though.
