My church lost the pastor and we had an associate and they didn't offer him the position, the church was upset over it. I was wandering how do we change our leaders in the church cause we have a problem with our leadership in church. They ran our Pastor away and then they wouldn't offer our associate pastor the position and some of our church member are leaving over the leadership of the church. I'm talking about the deacons. So if anyone has an advice on this please let me know about the roberts of order ( something like that) and I guess the bi laws I am not sure new about this. thanks

I have done a bit of research into the church in the USA and it seems that too many of them are doing everything to self destruct. I have looked at research done by Geroge Barna and it seems that the church is in a state of war between church and leaders.
The reason for this is not too difficult to work out as it seems that most churches have a leadership that is not scriptural. I read 263 adverts for church pastors and they all wanted the same thing. A degree, experience and the ability to make things happen. Only three wanted to know about the applicants spirituality.
When you operate on this basis you are running a religious organisation not a church. You invite all the problems that go on in business because your pastor is the CEO of the business and the congregation are unpaid volunteers to make the pastor/CEO succesful. It becomes all about his ministry, not the priesthood of all believers, which is the only priesthood the scripture recognises.
You can get rid of the pastor and the problems will remain because the foundation is wrong. The same as when you divorce, the second marriage will fail if you don't address the issues that caused the divorce in the first place. When you have a paid pastor, the church will only function if it submits to the authority of the pastor.
That in itself is contrary to the teaching of Jesus as he said if you want to be great you have to be a servant, not a master.
About 1 million Christians in the USA are leaving the institutionalised church each year as they are fed up with the politics and power struggles. They prefer a more scriptually based experience with a plurality of lay leadership and the priesthood of all believers, not just a select credentialled few.
I have served under all forms of church government and the only one that seems less troublesome and effective in producing harmony is government by a body of male lay elders who are in submission to each other.
As I study the church worldwide, it seems that the days of a one man paid ministry is numbered because it does not work and it is not scriptural. If you really want to solve your problem, dispense with one man paid pastors and appoint a body of senior men who are not paid and introduce the priesthood of all believers where everyone is responsible to hear and receive from God their ministry and to function in it.

The guideliones for appointing (or electing) leadership should be in the original (or and ammended verson) charter of the Chruch.
The most simple way to know is to ask the associate Pastor or a board member.
If your Church is part of a denomination then you could approach the denomination for such information.
Each Church or group of Churches vary in the proceedure.

The guidelines should be the word of God. Unless a person has an annointing from God for a ministry, man appointing him won't give him one. If a book of rules is contrary to God's word, it should be thrown out.
If you follow a book of rules that is contrary to God's word all you are doing is asking God to remove his blessing from the church.
