Your pastor is right. Moses was called to take the Jews out of Egypt. At first he didn't want to do it as I recall. Mother Theresa was called to feed the hungry in India. I don't know what my calling is ... yet. Maybe He hasn't found something for me to do.

So your thoughts on callings and what you think you are called to? We are not called to a thing, we are called to a person...we are all called to Christ. Peace

I think there are callings (which I tend to equate to what you are passionate about) and then there's simple obedience. I may not be called to be an evangelist, but scripture tells me to share my faith with others.

ORIGINAL: armydude I've been called to preach. I avoided that call for years, but God won out. He does ya know... Haha!! Me, too! My entire life (I'm only 25) I've thought to myself, "I sure hope that's not what God calls me to do." And sure enough, just this year I've realized that He has called me to preach in some sense. He hasn't yet given me the details, but I get the basic idea.

All saints are called to obedience in all facets of His sacrifice regardless of one's ministry. Romans 12:6-"We have faculties unique to the grace given us; exercise them according to one’s level of simple faith. 7 Seize your opportunities for service and in so doing teach the validity of Christ’s sacrifice. 8 When he exhorts to further obedience, exhort for the spiritual growth of the body since you’ll be included. When he gives, give in cooperation [for] God will accomplish His purposes and missing an opportunity to participate with God’s sacrifice misses our blessing to be involved. When one is a leader, lead with authority and diligence; When you’re called to show mercy, show mercy genuinely 9[and]let your love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is arrogant but cling to what is obedient to Christ. 10 Give mutual preference in honor 11 with no lag in due diligence and always fervent in your service as your sacrifice to the Lord. 12 Rejoice in your hope, persevering in tribulation and devoted in obedience 13 contributing to the needs of the saints and practicing consideration."

This remines me about something a very wise woman once told me. "God Calls men not to rise up, but to bow down."

But, then we are to arise and spread the good news. I believe we are all called to ministry, but that does not mean we have to be leaders of mega churches. We all know people who are lost. We are to minister to all those around us about the grace and mercy of God, about repentance, and salvation through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

The first time I recieved a hint of my calling was when I was in 7th grade. I was in my Sunday school class and the lady teaching me told me that a few of the people who attended the church had approached her and told her God had told them something about me. They all said the same thing to her. When she told me I thought it was kinda wierd and put the phone on mute metaphorically speaking. Even with it on mute for 15 years I could still hear him calling to me but I didn't want to listen, I wanted to hear what I wanted to hear when I wanted to hear it. Then, he called to me this year through someone I really cared about. I heard the phone ringing after this. I answered because I had questions for him and he was more than happy to talk to me

I believe I am called to preach as well. It was something I never thought of earlier, it just kind of popped into my mind.

I would say it's important to not spend so much time awaiting around for "the call" that you don't do anything now. Unless God has laid a very specific draw on your heart, I think that He is overjoyed when we seek out a ministry that fits our passions, interests and gifts. God made us the way He did for a reason, ya' know?

I think God calls us at different times, to different kinds of work and ministries, depending on where we are in life and what He is desiring to work in our lives, and in lives around us at the time. For most of my adult life, I was called to be a mom. I never doubted for a second that my calling was to be a full time stay at home mom and raise the children he blessed us with. Once they got older and I began to seek Him about what I would do after they were raised, He placed a different calling and passion in my heart. I still feel called to work with kids, just in a very different capacity than when I was a mom. I think we should be open to our calling changing as we mature and circumstances in life change. I believe God often calls us to certain ministries and in certain directions, but sometimes it's just for a season, then He moves us in a different direction.

Perhaps the most important thing, Popsi, is to obey what God has revealed(and is revealing)to you in your current life experience. We often are concerned about one's 'call' looking forward while missing our opportunities to offer kindness-es at our feet.

In Ephesians 1:18 Paul prays that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling. And in Ephesians 4:4 he says there is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling. . . It is this calling, His calling, we need to apprehend. We are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:29), called with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity (2Tim 1:9), partakers of a heavenly calling (Heb 3:1), and we are to be diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing us (2Peter 1:10). Instead of a focus on 'my' calling, it seems He's asking me to know His calling. My thoughts. . . It's ALL about Jesus.

Hi Popsi, I am only a 4 year old christian, I know I am not God and limited to my human understanding of truth. That being said... I think we are called -above all- to love and praise the LORD and let Him use us to express His love for others. I think we are called to use our own life experiences to help others that may be going through something we have already gone through. For many of us, I think it is as simple as that. I don't know what your pastor meant when he said he thought you were called to "helps" but, allowing Him to help others through you, is a wonderful blessing. IMHO, gifted people are not just in leadership...some of the most blessed and -used- people are sitting in the back rows or not even attending a church.

I think it would be hard to really understand if a 'calling' was from God or not. Maybe its just something u really wanted to do? And theres no harm in that. It dosent have to be a calling. God calls everyone to believe in Him.
