We have a dream home thread how about a dream land?

To take from GNM thread here are the questions

What would be your land as a single? Would it be different if you're married? What if you and your spouse disagree on the kind of land? What if there are huge differences in where you want to live?

I did not post in the dream house thread for a long time because, for me, the land is much more important then the house..........

My dream land as a single would be slightly different then if I was married.........as a single a big yard would not be as important and I would need less land for a garden.

If I was married I would want more culivated land or yard.........

My dream land is a large parcel in the country.........with a stream, lake, woods, fields and big yard........slightly rolling hills with open areas to see horizon for the sunset.

I would want apple, cherry, mullberry, pear and peach trees........

Grape vines, strawberry plants and plenty of space of a garden.

In the woods we would build cedar trails for hiking/jogging or walking the dog.........and the creek would be shallow enough the kids could play in it with their barbie boats......or catch minnows.......

The lake, which would be on the backside of the house would be big enough to boat on but small enough that it is not over populated..........

The beach or botton of the lake would be sandy and not all weedy and we would have a pier with one of those floating jumping thingys in the water.....

dream land?

(I'd prefer to live in the country, but if the new Mrs O wants to live in town we can do that and just do weekends in the country.)

upwards of 100 acres.

Mostly wooded (I like hunting for mushrooms in spring and walking through the woods the rest of the time.)

Either on a major lake (suitable for boating with my own dock) or enclosure a 5-10 acre lake (good fishing size)

flowing water is a plus (and around here is almost guaranteed)

not too close to the city. I'd hate to have everything set up right and the city grow into me and try to annex me.

Big Garden. While I don't eat many veggies I do love to grow them.

Fruit orchard. Same deal.

Room for a barn and some horses, couple cows and maybe a sheep or two.

In ground (or underground) pool.

Out building with basketball court, racketball court, locker room and running track (around the basketball court). I've got this designed already somewhere . Great for teen overnighters and stuff like that.

close enough to the road so I can just barely hear the traffic but far enough away that they can't see me.

Let me know when the basketball court is finished, John, and I'll come play!

Hey, you stole my dream land John! LOL!! Except for I don't want it to be on the lake, I hate big

water!! And my out building has to have a volleyball court and I really want a sand volleyball pit

also! The out building also needs a stage, I love writing and directing dramas, so it would be

nice to have the facility right there at my home! My land has to have some really sturdy trees

for swings for my five kids, (yes, I said five!) and also for my deer stand! I also would love to

have a shooting/archery range in my back yard, no more driving to the bow shop to practice!

The house would be sitting on top of a hill looking down over the rest of the property and it

would just be a place where kids and teens could come and relax and get to know God better, I

would love to run a small camp in the summer time for teens from broken families. I'm sure

there are other things I would like, just can't think of them right now!

Why in the world would anyone want to be able to hear traffic?

Me I want the only sounds I hear to be those of nature and of course the sweet sound of my children, family and friends..........

I would love to have enough land that I invite groups of people to camp out............

Oh that reminds me I need a fire pit......with logs surrounding it....

And though we would need a pole light for some evenings........I want one with an on off switch so at night when I am sitting on the balcony or down on the pier there would be no light pollutions...........

I don't want too many fences so that the deer, foxes and other animals can come visit........

I grew up inthe city. after a while with no noise it's somehow comforting to me. (Ya I know, just as strange as the rest of me)

They've not made a fence that really stops the deer. They can leap at least the six footers, possibly the eights.

We had a fox around here a while back. It kept taking things from houses in the neighborhood. Finally we had to deal with it. Yep, the fox stole.

Whether married or single, my dream land would be a children's paradise...a playground with everything imaginable, both traditional and unusual...miniature horses for the kids to ride...if married for my own children and their friends and later grandchildren..if single for the preschool kids for that in home preschool I'm gonna have someday. More details later.

You killed the fox????

That is just wrong.........do you know how cute they are?

Something stops them cause before the alpaca farm went in behind my dad's house we had lots of deer in the little wooded part of his land.........my neighbor said the fencing they put up keeps the deer from coming near the houses now.

Joy, it sounds like we want some of the same things in our dream land. If I'd have my druthers, it would be big enough for fruit trees (we have different trees that grow down here... oranges, a few peaches, kumquats, etc. But I think I'd prefer the woods so that I can carve out a little winding pathway and put those little benches along the path. I want it to be as natural as possible so that more wildlife will visit. Oh, and I want to go pick wild blackberries. And muskadine grapes... and make jelly.

My aunt had a perfect place in North Carolina for a while... a big hill we were able to go sledding on, a babbling creek at the bottom of the hill (it was cold!!) There were tons of lightning bugs in the summer (they're dying out around here) and snow in the winter. It really was perfect.

We still have plenty of lighting bugs.........and the girls still catch them, squeeze them to keep the light on and put them in a jar........

Yes I want benches in the woods as well.........and the center chips are important for the skitters to stay away.

I always would love to have an english butterfly garden, a hummingbird garden and another area near the kitchen with bird feeders

It would be cool if somewhere on the land we could have a small cabin with one side completely windows facing the woods with tons of feeders. and mic......like they do at nature centers......so that you can be inside the building and observe the birds and other small animals while hearing their sounds amplified.........wouldn't that be cool

you know I just had a thought I might need a gardener or ranger to help with the property.......otherwise, with all the gardening, canning, even with the children to help, I will never have time to just sit and listen.......and I need my time to just sit and listen to nature.........my husband needs me to have my time to sit and listen to nature as well.

Oh, I totally forgot to put that into mine. I want the same, though I do try to keep my birdfeeders full around here... it's so much fun to see the variety of birds who come to visit.

Oh, that would be cool. We have a place like that at Bok Tower Gardens... just a serene place that looks over the water.

Oh what beautiful places we're coming up with.

I'm not a big fan of living in the country. Too much grass to mow. Achoo!

I would, however, like a fenced in back yard and a pool. Also, a flower garden would be nice, but I am gardening-impaired. Maybe he'll have a teenage daughter with a green thumb ....

Hey, I never said I wouldn't like full size horses as well, lol. I was typing one handed at the time, and couldn't get everything in. I've got a lot more to add...but upthread I was busy with my sister..and at the moment I'm having an attack of either allergies or a cold...so not up to it at the moment...but I do wanna post more details later.

They must have put up a high fence else you guys have short deer. Down here a 6 foot fence doesn't stop them. Big jumpers!!

It is not the height of the fences silly but their close proximity. Deer will jump one or two fences but not several in a row......

How do I know......I asked an expert.....

One qualified to educate.....

Lisa what did you get?

I what a wide variety of trees so in the fall there is a kaleidoscope of color everywhere............and the house should be up a little so that my husband and I can look see, at least in one direction, hill after hill of tree.....

Does anyone remember jason something or other? His property was close to my dream property........

Or you could live near a great lake..........better then an ocean without all the hazards of one.
