I know some of us are single parents but for those who aren't, how do you fulfill your parental feelings? I find mine very fulfilled in being an Aunt.

I don't have such a need, so it's not an issue for me.

Some days I think I want kids, others I don't. My mother said she didn't think she wanted a child until she met my Dad and then she knew she wanted one. I do believe I'll want them when the time comes. I'm just glad my clock doesn't tick too loudly right now.

LOL! I forgot...I have kitty babies! They're like my little children, especially my oldest, Ari, who acts like a perpetual 5 year old!

One of my BFF's is 10 years older than me and has 4 children under the age of eight, so I get to babysit/help out with hers a lot and I love it!! Her youngest two are boys and they are almost three and just turned four and I love them to death! Being with her kids makes me want my own though... I also have several baby cousins and get to babysit them, I just love children!!!!!!

I have a friend who's a single mother. She has two little girls and I tutor them after school in reading and math. Sometimes I have more fun with these 8 and 9 year old girls than I do with grown ups.

I have always been very maternal and it has been tough not having my own children. But, I have been blessed with wonderful nieces and nephews that I'm so thankful to have in my life. I know the things I feel towards them may not be as deep as my sister's but they sure go deep. When my oldest nephew left for college a couple months ago I felt such a whirlwind of emotions. I was so proud but the "letting go" part was really hard for me...and still is. He from time to times sends me a quick text to tell me he loves me or wish me a good day and everytime he does my heart just swells. I sure am greatful for those kids.

I have no outlet. I have always wanted to be a mother and I really love little kids. I have no nieces, nephews, or any other young person in my family. I don't do anything in the church ... too little time to spend with kids - and it is just too painful for me. I do have younger people though who are in their twenties that tend to want to spend time with me. I look at them as little brothers and sisters. I don't have pets because I'm allergic to pet hair. And somehow, having a fish wouldn't be the same ...

Hmmm ... never thought about a turtle. Do they show emotion? Are they ever happy to see you?

From what I hear, yes, to some extent..never quite the enthusiasm of a dog, but.......and just like anything you'd have to research the right breed. Don't get a snapping turtle, of course. Also, birds and their bird owners often form bonds..I don't know if you're allergic to feathers, too, though, or not. Although, Pauley can tell you birds sometimes don't work out so well. I HAVE, believe it or not, actually heard of fish that eventually get pretty friendly..swimming up to the owner's finger and all.

rgod - birds are GREAT! I have the most hysterical cockatiel - that bird responds to me - all the time....talking and mimicking sounds, etc. He even knows how to get my attention when he wants some food or water. And, he will sit on his perch and stare at me - through the cage - watching what I am doing in my room. He's GREAT company! I got him while in grad school nearly 10 years ago - he's awesome. Yes, I have my kitty now too, but, this bird *Buddy* WAS my buddy during school.
