I won't sign the rest of the song...that would just ruin it for all of you. Anyway, there's a question here somewhere.

I know that when we're down and disappointed the first thing we do is look up to God and pray. But is there anything else that you do that brings you comfort?

When I am down, my first instinct is to go for a run. I put on my running shoes and go for a run with no direction. Also, I want to climb but the crags are 2.5 hours away, so that's not an easy option.

What do you guys do to deal with your frustrations, hurts, anger, disappointmetns....etc/ ?

I like to go for a walk or run as well. Watching a movie can be good if it's rainy outside. And sometimes it helps to just play with the cat and everything is all better!

Spending time with a friend or friends is helpful for me. Sadly, since my best friend moved away that has become a rare thing now. Hanging out in here helps too, just not as much.

A movie only works as a temporary escape for me. For ~2 hours I get sucked into the alternate reality, but when the end credits roll I'm usually just right back where I started.

Oh, and a cat that loves to cuddle in my lap and purr helps some too.

I like to go to a concert, there's this cool place about an hour from my house called the Foundry and they get some really cool groups like Hawk Nelson and Disciple, so I like to go there and hang out. It lets me meet new people and get my mind on something else. I also like to write, work on dramas with a couple of other singles from my church, or sing. If I'm really upset about something though, nothing beats a great big ice cream sundae and a good romantic comedy! (I LOVED Enchanted!!)

Hi PH - I write. It helps me to clarify my thoughts and also is a great release - then it usually flows into prayer time!

Depending on the movie and or a song I might be listening to, it might send me into a bawling session (which doesn't happen very often, just so I don't give the impression of a female who's always in tears!) if I'm feeling really down. And that helps!

Having someone to share the burden with is very important to me. Just telling someone how I feel will help me see it more objectively. Unfortunately, I have to be careful with whom I share stuff.

That's was one thing that was wonderful in my marriage. My ddh worked hard to learn to listen to me and let me ramble until I had unburdened myself--that's not an easy thing for man to do: usually they want to SOLVE THE THING DRAT IT!--but he disciplined himself and I could share pretty much anything with him.

I do share it all with God, and up until a few years ago, rgod, writing was how I did it. I have many spiral notebooks full of what I call "heart barf" and prayers. I don't do it much anymore; it used to feel so effective and so compelling, but now it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. In some ways I'm glad. I won't have to worry about making sure I burn up so much of it before I die and the children find it...

Anyway.

So...chocolate. CW (huge help). Getting my mind on my business...there's plenty of stuff that needs doing, so getting busy about all of that gets my mind off the tough stuff and makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something, at least.

I do different things depending on what I am not sure........maybe on the emotion......I don't know.

When I am frustrated I usually ride or go to the lake to talk to the Lord.......the lake is usually my choice on stormy, wavey days........somehow the power and rage of the water reminds me calmness always comes after the storm.

Hurt I think I usually go to the woods.......

Anger......I want to be alone......doesn't matter whether I am walking in the woods or a city.......I just need to get out and walk....to think.......to have God open my eyes to the truth and speak to me peace.

Disappointment again I tend to do something in nature alone......

Hopelessness God often speaks through activities with the girls and his Word.......

Ironically when I am lonely I tend to do something alone.....and somehow that makes me less lonely........funny huh LOL

What an interesting question Prairiehiker........there are so many things I do yet none would I say are always what I do when I feel this way.......sometimes I ride, sometimes I write in my journal, sometimes I post on CW and sometimes, such as recently, I try all the things which usually work and none do........until .......wait I just realized what it is........for it has less to do where or what I am doing........as it does who I am being.....and how I am listening.

Sharing with others is still hard for me............humpy dumpty would be a good illustration...........sitting on the wall teetering back and forth during an earthquake of emotions I will share a little, but once I start falling.........then I need to be alone, to spend time talking to God in nature, to see the moon, hear the waves, smell the leaves, or feel wind as I fly down a hill on my bike...........in the past I have fallen but I never hit the ground.....my daddy has always caught me.....until this past year.....

This past year I have experienced what it is like to be broken into many different pieces.........and shattered I found myself needing someone to help put me back together.........God provided........

Driving. Sometimes I just feel the need to run. So I hop in the car and just drive. I never go anywhere specific, just as the gumption drives me I go.

I just got back from a few miles run, and my mood has swung dramatically from one end to another. I was feeling really down before my run, but now, it's like I'm on top of the world. I know I'll hit a low point again, but Im enjoying a few moments of endorphin induced happiness.

I, too, like being alone when I'm going through difficult times. Initially, I'd like to vent, but after that, I need to process the difficulties and feel all the emotions. That's how I feel a release. I talk to God a lot when I'm alone. Usually, I'm walking, or running, cycling. Climbing/hiking would be my ultimate release, but those days are rare.

I feel much closer to God and my commune with him is so real when I'm in nature; in the woods somewhere.

I like driving too, but it's getting kinda expensive to do these days. I used to like to explore new towns at random like one day I just started driving down random roads and ended up in Poland. I'm such an explorer!

I can relate prairiehiker.........I am glad you were able to go for a run and now feel better.

Do you work in an office? I use to have my own business which allowed me to out and about all day..........now I work in an office with no windows......somedays I get so restless I can't stand it..........I have found just running upstairs and stepping outside for 10 minutes will lift my spirits and enable me to focus more in the 50 minutes left........

It is funny the smokers go outside because they have to have a cigerate.......me I go outside because I have to breath the fresh air and see the sky LOL

I love driving too. Especially when it's not planned.

Yeah, I work in an office surrounded by windows. The only thing is, it's not always a pretty sight outside. Let's see. in the past few months, I've seen a dead body hanging from a building directly across me, I've seen drunks getting beaten up, cops/firefighters everyday trying to arrest someone/ or trying to pick up an inebriated homeless men, lots of happening outside my window. The one inspiring scene was when I saw a firefighter rappel down from another building across me, to rescue a drowning peregrine falcon. That one really touched me. The falcons died, but they put in a good effort.

Hmmm....that sounds pretty awful PH. Remind me not to move to your city (or at least not take a job in that building)!

I guess you missed out on our discussion about my city being the murder capital of Canada. lol. It's not funny, but that's what we're famous for.

One thing I love to do and seems to lift my spirits up is to go down to this one park on Lake Michigan and just gaze out across the water. It seems to help me get things into perspective. Sometimes I cry and lay it all out before God and other times it's just soaking in all the beauty.

Another thing that I love and helps encourage me is a good laugh...the kind that comes from the very deep parts. I have some friends that we can get together and get to laughing so hard it hurts. After a good laugh like that, even though what was troubling me may still be there, it just doesn't seem to be as heavy anymore. I guess God's Word is true when it says "laughter does good like a medicine"

Yikes! I have two sisters living there.

Back to the topic.

I go somewhere I can be alone, where I can think in silence; that's where I find that I'm not alone.

If it's more of being sad I pull out my instruments and play anything/everything I can think of, until my lungs collapse or my fingers are too numb to feel the strings/keys. And of course sometimes cry, but that gives me a headache so I try not to go that route much.
If it's more of an anger/frustration thing I usually read, whatever I happen to grab- fiction, church doctrines, history, religion comparisons, just something to get lost in until I calm down.

Do you guys think that if we have life partners, would we be doing the same thing to cope when we're disappointed, frustrated, etc. Or would the fact that we have someone to lean on change the way we deal with life's little problems?

I'm thinking, would I still be running for miles if I had a husband who I can cry to? Would I be using all these activities as escapes, or would I do them because I truly enjoy them?

I guess it's the same question as the one about whether we'll be visiting the Single's forum if we were married?

Well, I mentioned that my husband was a great support. But honestly, in all marriages there are times when things are not good between you, and you still have to find a way to cope.

So don't throw away your running shoes, PH. You'll be glad you kept them.

Funny, I was just telling a man last week that no man is going to come in between me and my running shoes, lol. No, running is my life; I'll only give it up when I lose both legs.
