What is your child's currency? ie - if it's taken away, it's a very effective punishment.

oldest...lack of control (over anything whether it's having him sit next to you or touching him without his permission to controling his time/etc) or additional chores (very jealous of his time)

second..love/approval (if he already loves you)

third..isolation/approval (very friendly kid)

fourth...combination of objects (taken away) or time outs (he's young yet)

For my eldest it's computer time, phone privileges, and getting to visit friends.

For my second - Most of the time all is needed here is a harsh word or expressed disappointment. Losing privileges works for her too as does taking away special events. Right now she is working toward earning an art class or two. But if she doesn't earn it she won't get it this time around.

For my third - up until a year ago it was isolation but now it's more of removal of privileges. What really works for this child tho is setting BIG goals with lots of little goals along the way!

Now the baby - it's getting to spend time with friends.

blessings,

Garsy

Anything that runs on electric power- GameBoy, cell phone, television, iPod, XBox, etc.

I will let him use electric lights to read by when he is grounded from everything else electric.

Another one that works for my three younger children is bedtime changes. Better behavior and listening to mom and dad can result in the privilege of staying up later on weekends. Bad behavior garners you the privilege of going to bed early without the opportunity to have extra reading time.

Blessings,

Garsy
