I was watching on TV the night Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's career home run record. Gave me goose bumps.

On my oldest son's birthday, we went to the ballpark and watched Kenny Rogers throw a no-hitter as a Texas Ranger. Only thing is I left our stubs in my jeans and next day my wife accidentilly washed our stubs.

Live? Dale Earnhardt Jr taking tires after the Joe Nemechek-Steve Park crash early in Segment 3 of Sprint All-Star Race XVI*, then watching Junior just go bonkers passing a smoking Dale Jarrett from my Diamond Tower seat off Turn 2 with 1 1/2 laps to go to win the $750,000. * NASCAR has designated all previous races with the respective Roman Numeral designation following a request by Sprint. The 2008 event was designated Sprint All-Star Race XXIV.

During the 2003 17-18 Junior National Cycling Championship Road race in College Station, TX it was extremely HOT, and the coarse did not allow the cyclists to get enough water during the race and many of the riders became severely dehydrated. One of the riders in a five man breakaway was among those who had become extremely dehydrated. He stayed in the breakaway until the last couple of miles and then worked hard just to get to the finish line ahead of the chasing pack. When he came down the road in the last 200 meters before the finish line he was barely able to stay upright, he was going only about 10MPH and swerving all over the road way. When he got to the finish line he literally gave one final shove to get his front wheel over the line and then passed out. Those in the crowd at the finish line had to reach over the line and catch him before he hit the pavement! His effort placed in 5th on the podium, but he was clearly the talk of the evening.

Austrian skier Franz Klammer's gold-medal-winning final run in the Men's Downhill event at the 1976 Winter Olympics at Innsbruck. He was holding on by the skin of his teeth almost all the way down the course and almost ate it HARD on several occasions, but he held it together and was the fastest man down. Many sports journalists list the tape of that run as one of the best pieces of sports television ever.

Two things, one from two different sports! Hockey - Wayne Gretzky threads a pass over one defender's stick and under another hitting the tape of Tony Granato's stick for the one-timer past a goalie that never saw it coming! Football - Terry Bradshawe connects a pass to Roger Stallworth while Stallworth had been upended, both feet in the air, catching it while he landed on his back! What's sad is I don't remember what year, who they were playing or even if it was a playoff game. Ahlzheimer's?

In person: Seeing the words "Guess who's in first place!" on the scoreboard at Shea Stadium back in Sept. of 1969. First time the Mets had ever been in first place. Ever? That's a toughie. Willis Reed coming out of the tunnel in game 7 of the '70 NBA championships is pretty close to the top. Maybe only Cleon Jones catching Davey Johnson's fly ball, giving the '69 Mets the World Series championship ranks higher.

This one is easy: game seven of the '06 Stanley Cup with my Canes vs the Oilers. The crowd never sat down for the entire game. Noise level was incredible with the building shaking With the game sealing goal and the final horn sounding the streamers came down from the roof. Then hockey's holy grail - the Stanley Cup - was brought oil unto the ice. After that, each player on the team took his lap with the cup.

Hershel Walker as a freshmen in 1980. Went to all 6 home games that year. He had amazing size, strength, and speed for that era of football. Made defenders look silly many times.

I'll admit I don't tend to watch sports too much. But for me it was a local game, one of those miracle season sort of stories. My alma mater, Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis Indiana, was never known in the state of Indiana as a sports power house. But in 1980, they won the Indiana State Basketball championship. I admit that I'm old enough that sadly I forget the names of the players, but in the final game, the opposing team was ahead by one point. They were down to the final 10 seconds. Broad Ripple had the ball at the other team's basket and were starting to work their way down the court. The clock was counting down. When the player got to the half court mark there was only like 2 seconds left, and you could tell the other team was starting to celebrate. Broad Ripple's coach could be heard on the television broadcast bellowing at the top of his lungs, "Shoot it! Shoot it NOW!!" The player obeyed his coach, the ball arced through the air and as the clock hit -0-, WHIFFT! The ball was in without touching the rim. In one corner of the shot, you see a player from the other team drop to the floor. Broad Ripple had won their first state championship!

For me, it was Michael Phelps' two 2008 Olympic Gold Medals in which he and teammates won by hundredths of a second... The one where his teammate came from behind to beat the French relay team and the other one where Phelps hit the wall a fingertip faster than his opponent...Those two super close races and the eight Gold Medals as context made it that amazing and exciting to watch.

I don't know if you mean live....but live, it was the local high school football team winning the state championship at their home field against the dominant team in the classification when the other team missed an extra point in OT. That place went nuts. And I had gone to every home game that year so it was pretty special.

the catch by Franco Harris against the Raiders. Tyrone Prothro catching the ball behind USM defenders helmet, the catch to beat Arkansas last year ((again Alabama)), The kick by Van Tiffin to beat Auburn in 85 on the plains((alabama again)) the best though is Dale Earnhart winning Daytona 500. to see every team line the wall to slap his hand was special. the two saddest for me was Dale Earnhart's wreck at Daytona he died in, and Bear Bryant's last game.

What about some embarassing losses?..... I guess I thought the Lakers loss to the Pistons a few years back was an "amazing/great sporting feat...".....How could a team with Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Karl Malone, and Gary Payton lose to the no-name Pistons at the time?....and to lose 4-1 in NBA Finals (they almost got swept that series). Wow. They must have been suicidal.

2005 Capital District Championship game Highland Springs High school was down by 2 points with around 10 seconds left. My nephew was a sophmore at the time so he was not the star of the team (yet). The opposing team double team the star player and he passed the ball to my nephew and he hit the game winning shot. YEAH 2007 AAA State semi-finals Highland Springs down by 1 point going into the 4th quarter. HSHS had beat people by a margin of 30 points all season found themselves in a unusual situation or maybe not. Lead by my nephew(16points in 4th quarter) they had a 32 point forth quarter winning by 14. Okay maybe not the greatest but I'm one proud Auntie. Did I mention that he is on a full scholly at VCU.
