I sleep all the time, but not nearly as much as I'd like to I am tired ALL the time. I'm usually in bed for 8 hours or so, but it takes me about an hour or more to fall asleep, no matter how tired I am, and I usually wake up every 2-3 hours (and go back to sleep within a half hour). I get up at 6:00 for work, but can't sleep once the sun comes up, so even on weekends and during the summer, I almost never sleep past 6:45 or 7:00. Pre-pregnancy, I slept on my stomach or occasionally on my back. I can't do that any more and have to prop pillows around myself so that I won't naturally roll over onto my back in my sleep. It's still most comfortable to sleep on my back (sleeping on my stomach is now impossible), but whenever I try to get up or roll over, it feels like my spine is separating from the rest of my body, so I try to avoid that I don't like to be touched while I'm sleeping and I don't like fans or breathing on my skin. I cover up with a comforter up to my neck. I feel vulnerable/exposed with anything other than my face outside of the covers. Anything light, like a sheet, isn't thick enough for me to feel safe while I'm sleeping. Even in the summer with the house at 80*, I will sleep completely covered up with a comforter or blanket. Oh, and my cat usually sleeps on top of me or with his back against mine

I require lots of sleep. I prefer 9-10 hours of sleep a night. Sometimes I will stay up late reading, but by "late" I mean 10:30. Sometimes, if the book is too good to put down, I'll stay up until 11:00. My husband usually stays up until I get to bed, because we have a nighttime cuddling ritual that if we don't follow, he seriously can't get to sleep. First we both lie facing in towards each other, wrapped around each other until we're almost asleep. Then I turn over, and he kisses my neck a few times. Then we stay like that, spoon-style, until we're drifting off again. Then we both turn over and I wrap my arms around his back. From there we don't have a consistant pattern, but we do those first three positions every night. If I'm too hot, I stick one foot out from under the covers. If I'm really hot I'll stick both out, but I like to be covered up. I prefer to sleep in a room that is on the cool side. I would sleep until 8:00 or 8:30 each day, but my husband wakes me up at 7:00. He used to wake me up at 6:00, so I'm happy that he at least lets me sleep until 7:00. He's never in bed when I wake up. He wakes up at 5:00 or earlier most days. Some days, especially if he's getting hungry before 7:00 (when he knows it's safe to come and wake me up) he'll make breakfast.

On a non-uni day I go bed late (after 12 usually) and depending on if there is anything to get up right away for I either get up early or late. I sleep on my front/side with one knee up by my chest and the other leg stretched out and I always rest my head on my arm on the pillow. I can't sleep with any more than 2 pillows. And I'm a morning person definately, I get so cranky at night when I'm tired but haven't gone bed yet. So much writing about my sleep!

I sleep in a room that is 62 degrees at all times - if not colder. I sleep in all positions but my favorite is half on my tummy half on my side LOL. Depending on my mood hubby and I moight or might not cuddle. I am one of those people that would be more than willing to take up our whole queen size bed if hubby wasn't in it. I got that way after hubby worked 3rds for 2yrs. I try to be sharing but theres been many a times when my hubby wakes me up in the middle of the night to tell me to move over cuz i'm pushing him out of the bed! I normally go to bed around 12 and then get up at 9. I wake up at 7:30 most mornings only to tell my hubby that Dradyn is crying and then I go back to sleep. My hubby willing gets up every morning with dradyn so that mommy has her one little perk - extra sleep!! However my hubby is 60% deaf in both ears so he cain't hear him while sleeping so I get the honor of pushing him and saying dradyn's awake. My hubby is a morning person, I however liike my morning to start at 9 not 7:30 or earlier. I'm not a zombie in the morning when I first get up - once I get my lazy butt out of the bed, I'm nomally quite a happy person. I take a nap probably around 4 times a week for anywhere from 1 hr to 3 hrs depending on how long dradyn's nap is. I always take naps on sundays because I have to get up at 7:30 for church. I have one feather pillow and that is all I use - except when i am prego - then i need one between my legs. I think that is all. Sorry this is so long - i didn't mean for it be. Seems like all my post lately turn out really long!!!

Oh and I also use a comforter and sheet pulled up to my neck but the blankets have to be loose (like not tucked in to the bed) or I feel like I am restricted and cain't sleep. I knew I'd forget something when i hit ok

Don't tell him I said, that, though. It's probably because I was used to it when he worked nights, too. My husband is also mostly deaf, so if I hear scary noises in the middle of the night, I have to go investigate because he won't hear them. quote:

not necessarily that, but when I was newly married my mom said that a good wife would get up and make her hubby breakfast....I told her she didn't know my hubby. Years later, after being around him in the mornings, she changed her tune....lol Does he make breakfast, then? I know mine would LOVE it if I got up early to make breakfast for him, since that's what his mom did and he still has that subconsious idea that it's a "good wife" thing to do, but it doesn't work when he wakes up two to three hours before I do. I much prefer that he makes breakfast.

I love to sleep in a cold room snuggled under a blanket or two, but in the summer months it costs too much to accomodate my wishes so I usually end up in a cooled room (air set to 70*, plus two fans blowing on me) under a light blanket. I like to have the sheets tucked in at the bottom but hubby doesn't (he's 6'2" and we only have a full size bed) so I've learned to live with that. I have to have the sheets and covers and pillowcases all straight, even, and smooth or I can't sleep. I can tell if the blanket is off center because the weight distribution on my body is wrong. The blanket and sheet have to be even at the top, and in the right place (i.e. not all bundled up on my neck) or it makes me crazy. I go to bed around midnight, on school mornings I get up at 6 to get the kids up for the bus, then I lay back down after they're off to school and doze until the youngest gets me up - usually around 8 or 8:30. The mornings that hubby is at home and gets up with him, I sleep in until 9:30 or 10. I used to stay up until 2 - 3 am and sleep until 11 or later, but once we had more than one child that just wasn't possible anymore. I have to sleep on my side, no two ways around it. I sleep with two pillows under my head, one in between my legs and "hugging" one with the arm that's on top, whichever way I'm laying. Hubby and I snuggle a little while we're dozing off, but for deep sleep we don't. I get too hot. We have to face the same direction in a spooning position since our bed is so small. So when one of us turns over, the other has to as well. ETA, meant to respond to this: quote:
Has anybody else ever got subtle or not so subtle hints from other Christians that it is somehow more spiritual to be up with the birds after a minimum of sleep?? Oh goodness YES. Not so much the 'after a minimum of sleep' part, but I catch a lot of flack for being a night owl. People automatically assume someone is lazy (which translates into "non-spiritual" for the Christianites) if they sleep late into the morning, even if overall they got no more sleep (or in some cases, even less) than someone who goes to bed by 10 pm and gets up at 6 am. Drives me crazy!

It seems like the sheet always gets turned on an angle and both of us are trying to pull a different side of the sheet up to our chin! We used to have a ceiling fan in our old house, and it took us awhile to get used to not having one. I'm used to it now, though.

ORIGINAL: peculiar_lady2 As for how I sleep, I prefer half on my stomach half on my side...kind of hard to explain, but it works for me. I like to be covered up on my body, but my face to get fresh air...and I can't stand covers binding up in my feet, so usually they are hanging out (or at least one of them is). Boy that sounds weird...lol. Well, Sarah, you explained me right down to the feet hanging out. You lost me at falling asleep fast though. I don't sleep and I can't remember a night that I fell asleep without having to take something for it. I have tried so many things and usually end up with the benedryl since it is non addicting, but I do have sleep meds in case I need them.

What kind of a sleeper are you? Do you stay up late and sleep in? Go to bed early? How much sleep a night to do you need? I can be very light to sometimes not even aware... I usually stay up late unless I have to work then I try to get to sleep earlier... I like to have 7-8hrs but that doesnt always happen lol Do you sprawl over the entire bed or keep to one spot? Sleep on your tummy, back, or side? Sometimes I sprawl out but I know that will change in few months lol sometimes I sleep on my back or tummy or side... I am a variety lol Do you have lots of pillows, or just one? Do you prefer to sleep covered up? Yep I have few pillows but only one I perfer, I have to sleep covered up even if its just a sheet lol Do you like to snuggle with your husband when you sleep? I cant say yet but I will let ya know in few months... Any bedtime routines you'd like to share? Hmm...

I have lots of sleeping issues! For one, I'm a total night owl. I got that from my mom. I tried to be a morning person my entire life and I was just not wired that way. Most nights I don't go to bed before 4am, sometimes I'm still up when my husband leaves for work. I prefer 8-9 hrs of sleep, but that rarely happens. I guess I'm not a good little Christian. We have a huge king size bed that is comfortable, but I hate it. It's a huge bed in a small bedroom and I get claustrophobic in there. Many nights I'll wake up in a panic. I'm much more comfortable sleeping on the couch, and would live in the living room and turn the bedroom into a guest room if I could. lol I'm not a sleep snuggler. I sleep on my side or my back, with one or two pillows. I like to sleep with the tv on, because it distracts me from the anxiety and it helps me sleep. I have to be in a cold room with a blanket. I don't like sheets. I have to have a blanket though, or I feel naked. The room has to be cool enough, but I don't like air blowing directly on my face. I used to be a really heavy sleeper and nothing would wake me up. Now I'm a pretty light sleeper and a dog walking across the room can wake me. Did I mention I have sleeping issues?

Not to sidetrack the thread, I'm just interested if that sort of opinion is widespread. I think my dad had that philosophy for a while. He has finally realized I will never be like that, though. I'm a night owl and not a morning person. He is also finally understanding people's physical limitations. He used to get up early and then take a nap. I would get up late, and not take a nap. My mom would tell him there was no difference. He didn't believe her. Now he does.

Boy that sounds weird...lol. Not weird, I sleep the same way. I actually sleep half way down the bed, so my feet can hang off the end in the fresh air Sometimes I also sleep fully on my belly, it depends what stage of sleep I'm in... DH does have hearing loss, but he's still the one who gets to check scary noises. When he worked the night shift I would just lay in bed and listen, I never got up. Not once. As for me... I am more of a morning person, I'm usually in bed by 10:30ish although recently it's been a bit later. Gonna have to change that soon though, since I'm going to have to get up earlier. I prefer to get 10 hours of sleep but I can make do with 8, I'll just be draggy at dinner time. I sleep like Sarah and Sandy, but I do like having a sheet. Dh and I don't usually snuggle during the night only a little before we fall asleep. Oh... I do have some peculiarities. I can't sleep facing the open end of the pillowcase and I can't go to bed unless the sheets/blankets are neatly arranged.

I am a night owl and stay up until around 1 or sometimes 2 am.I always sleep on my side, with 3 pillows.I also sleep with my teddy bear lol since for some reason I cannot sleep without snuggling something.During the summer I sleep on top of the covers at the opposite end of the bed so I can be closest to my air conditioner, and during the winter sleep with my blanket over my head.Once I get to sleep waking me is like waking the dead, and I can sleep through anything. I have funny sleeping habits don't I?
