by Rick Warren. Have any of you read it? and what was your opinion of it? A Community Church that I'm involved with wants to model itself after this book. I'm reading it now and would like other people's opinions of it.

No, I only read The Purpose Driven Life, which is an excellent book.

I would advise the church to not try to necessarily copy everything. What works in one place doesn't always transfer to another. Seek the leading of the Holy Spirit.

"Purpose-driven" means a lot more than worship style, but to the guy in the pew (or theater chair) that's about what it seems to boil down to.

Are the people of your community, whom you want to reach for Christ, likely to be attracted by a laid back style, loud contemporary music, theater-like atmosphere, or would they be turned off by that? Remember that people who are not Christians usually have a general ideal of what "church" is, and for many that means a reverent atmosphere and traditional hymns.

Your church might want to consider having a contemporary service Saturday evening and a more traditional one Sunday AM.

By definition, a purpose-driven church should be driven by a purpose: have some passion about what God has called it to do. This should be at the heart of what's happening; worship styles come and go.

I thought the book was excellent. I read it as part of a minstry course for my undergrad degree. It contains a lot of helpful information. Of course, depending upon the congregation, some of the guidelines in the book may be more useful than others.

God bless,
