I get this quwstion all the time and was looking for some advice. I hear lots of our religous leaders say Palestine is a fairly new idea. As I was pointed to recently in Exodus, chp.15 v.14, "The people shall hear, and be afriad: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina." It my understanding that Moses wrote this book and he recognized Palestine as a place, am I missing something? All replies appreciated! Thank you.

I never heard anyone say that Palestine is a new idea... I'm not sure what to make of that. I have heard somewhere that the Palestinians are descendents of the Philistines, and in fact, the verse that you quoted in Exodus... the word translated "Palestina" is "Palesheth" which is used 8 times in the Old Testament and is elswhere translated "Philistia" and "Philistines". The word translated literally means "land of the sojourners."

Question: Does this whole debate revolve around some pro-Israel vrs. anti-semitic sentiments? Does it have anything to do with the situation going on over there now with this whole "roadmap to peace" idea? That's a whole can of worms that I could really get on a roll about. But I won't go there right now except to say that no matter how much Israel is forced to give up it's not going to bring peace because Islaam is a violent and intrinsically anti-semetic religion. OK, I'll stop there...

The NASB says "...inhabitants of Philistia..."

The Palestinians and the Philistines are not at all the same people. According to Joseph Farrah, a Lebonese American news reporter who did his own research, the Palestinian people came to be in the aftermath of the 135 Bar Kochba jewish uprising against Roman occupation. The Jews were forcibly displaced from the Roman province of Judea, and a mixed group of Arabs of various nationalities and tribes were (also forcibly) brought in to fill the land. The Romans named them 'Palestinians' after the old enemy of Israel, the Philistines; and the province was renamed Palestinia.

So that name and people group goes back to the mid to late 2nd century ad.

Very informative...

I'd be interested in learning more. Do you know if Joseph Farrah quoted sources in his research?

Check him out at www.worldnetdaily.com I believe he wrote a book on that a few years ago and was put on a few palestinian hit lists for it. His sources would be listed in the book.
