Suspend him w/o pay until his case is resolved. This opens the salary cap for his team to bring in another player

The money your company would save could be used to hire another employee. I prefer to let the authorities do their job and find out what happened. I'm not saying the Giants or Commisioner Goodell need a criminal conviction before they can act but at least lets find out what happpened first. Athletes have rights also. Lets remember that while Plexico by the evidence shown far acted very irresponsibly (and even criminally) he shot himself accidentally, not anyone else.

So not having one of their best receivers in the lineup is not punishment? Good thing the Giants have a deep enough bench that he is expendable! The Giants have bent over backwards to help him with his personal problems, they have every right to can him. Or when you go to jail is your boss going to pay you for all that time you don't show up for work? These players also have clauses in their contracts concerning these things, what about the Giants' rights. They are paying this guy top dollar to play football not find every reason in the book to get suspended! The likes of Pacman Jones and Burress have NO PLACE in the NFL.

There is a difference between "canning" him and suspending him without pay. The Giants have every right to cut him (although I don't think they'll save anything on the salary cap, I think Plax and all NFL players have already received their last installment of yearly salary). But if they want to suspend him over this particular incident then its only fair to wait until the police investigation brings some light to this. After all in a suspension situation the Giants retain his rights, if they cut him another team can sign him. At least until the Commish brings the hammer down. If the Giants feel he is that bad then cut him. Put your money where your mouth is. Let the NFL do the suspending. I don't think its fair to compare Plaxico to Pacman. IMHO Plax has acted very badly ("prima donna" comes to mind) and I wouldn't be opposed to an NFL suspension after we have a little more official evidence to go on. But he shot himself, Pacman has been arrested and charged multiple times in crimes that have harmed others. One man is paralyzed due to an alleged Pacman crime. I know Plaxico's actions could have hurt others but fact is they did not.

no only hurt himself Nope...his actions hurt his team. Like it, or not, NYC has a strict gun control law and he chose to violate that law.

Nope...his actions hurt his team. Context please, the comment "he only hurt himself" was made in response to a comparison with multiple time arrestee Pacman Jones. Plaxico may not be a model citizen but the comparisons to the likes of Pacman are unfair IMHO. Plax "hurting" his team is nothing compared to someone not being able to walk. Edit: the Giants just suspended him for four games and fined him an undisclosed amount. He was also put on the non football related injury list so no playoffs either. Fines are usually equivalent to a game check. So they did what you guys wanted them to do but in a way that will pass legal muster better than a suspension without pay. I can't say I oppose it, certainly he violated the gun law if nothing else but I wish they would have waited. Its not like he was going to play this weekend anyway so what was the rush. The Giants can also try to get part of his signing bonus back for violating what I am sure is a morals clause in his contract. Of course they might want more definitive information before proceeding with that. I'm just not comfortable with the rush to judgment and this idea that representatives for the management sides of pro sports teams always tell the truth (more of an issue for "Starbury", see other thread).

Well he's been suspended for the rest of the season without pay that's $100K per game PLUS the Giants are considering getting back from him some pre-paid bonuses. The Giants organization is angry. With these moves they feel he's expendable and I am sure next season won't see him wearing a Giants jersey. Of course, the way things will probably go he'll be wearing striped pajamas at Rikers. So he's "not as bad as Pac-man" but he's the same in that he's throwing $5.8 million a year down the drain because he wants to play the tough bad boy. Hasn't the man heard of bodyguards? The Saints and Vikings both took a hit as well with the suspension of five players from the two teams for violating the league drug policy. The Vikings defense now has a gaping hole in it! The Saints offense will be hurt as well.
