Hi Ladies and welcome to November!

What are your plans for Thanksgiving? What's on your mind that you'd like to chat about?

Our Thanksgiving plans includes holiday crafts with our students... and maybe a potluck at church. I'm disappointed we won't have a traditional Thanksgiving for the next few years - I always love seasonal foods and getting together with family! I'll do my best to come up with some treats though, like pumpkin pie (if the pie pan can fit in the microwave, which doubles as our oven), sweet potatoes, and homemade stuffing. We'll have to do without a turkey this year as I don't believe the Japanese even know what the bird is.

Does anyone have any good stuffing recipes?

I'll send you a box of Stove Top stuffing. It is better that what I can make. Sorry you can't have turkey. I love to have leftover turkey for sandwiches. One of my favorite foods of Thanksgiving.

Hey ladies, since today is Kath's birthday, do you think we should overload her pm box with birthday wishes?

Yeah Chelsea, they must be in a totally different time zone... Thanksgiving was -last- month!

I don't really have a good recipe for stuffing, it's not very common around here. In our area it is more common to make dressing. (a mixture of cubed bread, mashed potatoes, onions and summer savory then baked with some of the turkey broth poured over top) We don't normally put anything inside the turkey except maybe an onion and salt and pepper.

I've not posted in a Women's only chat thread for a while, but I saw the title of this one and had to jump in.

Our Thanksgiving feast usually includes homemade stuffing, sweet potatoes made with brown sugar, oranges and marshmallows; green bean casserole, homemade rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy; sugar-free and regular pumpkin pie with cool whip; pecan pie, and of course, the BIG BIRD covered with bacon and spices. Mmmmmmm!

Okay, where's my coffee and pumpkin pie?

My friend Heather has invited us over for Thanksgiving ... turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes. I'm supposed to bring a sugar free pie.

What's on my mind? MY HUSBAND! He comes home from Iraq on Monday ... yay. I just made reservations for three days at the coast (Monterey, California) Nov 12-13-14. Then there's Thanksgiving ... then we're going to Hawaii Dec 2-11, 2008.

By the way, canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filler, just canned pumpkin) is an awesomely healthy side dish or dessert ... just add some cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and (for me) artifcial sweetener. Seriously, it's the BEST tasting vegetable EVER! Don't wait for Thanksgiving ... eat it all winter! Great vitamins and antioxidants.

Harvie- Monterey sounds nice and romantic! I will be praying for your husband's safe return. Are you getting lots of rain too?

Hi Melissa- I would serve you some coffee and pie, but we can't post images.

It's pouring here and I still have to walk to the grocery store to get supper for tonight. While I'm at the grocery store, I'm going to pick up the ingredients for Cherish (Trish) pumpkin soup. That sounds yummy!

That would be wonderful! Good idea! We actually keep a list of dry food goods on our blog that we wish we had here... just in case some nice family members want to surprise us with a box of goodies, haha.

I am going up on Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving) to visit my grandma who is in a nursing home. I haven't seen her in months and I am looking forward to visiting. I will also be there for my mother who needs moral support when visiting my grandmother. Its really tough on her. Then we will visit other family on Thanksgiving.

Whats on my mind at this particular moment? All of the things I need to do to prepare for my first day in my new teaching career (going from elementary to middle school) by this Monday morning. . I have a list of over 20 items to do this weekend and I think I have checked off 5 items so far! .

Happy Fall to everyone and happy pie eating/coffee drinking. I love dessert!

It's pouring here at the moment ... our first "real" rain since Spring ... so it's nice. (Nice when I'm home and dry!) I am glad I raked leaves this afternoon ... they pretty much are glued to the lawn once the rain starts.

Hello!

I figure I'll at least try to keep up on the first weekend of the thread.

Dh and I have been washing machine shopping today. Tomorrow, before we buy brand new at retail prices, dh is going to check out the scratch and dent just up the road to see how the prices/conditions compare.

Hello - I have never posted here. :)

I make a stuffing with bread crumbs, potatoes, onion, celery, sausage, and seasoning and we put it int he turkey. Oh my, if I do say so myself, it is the best! We make a lot, as we only make it 2-3 times a year. And not on Thanksgiving.

We go to my Brother's house every Thanksgiving. It is how we do the holidays. Thanksgiving at my Brother, Christmas we all do our own (but usually is my immediate family) and a few days before Christmas we do a day with hubby's family.

And yeah, it finally started raining here. I mean real rain. We need it so bad, so I am not even going to complain. Well, it helps me to not complain since I am not working, I really don't have to go anywhere in the bad weather.

Don't forget to set your clocks back!

It is pouring rain where I live also... and has been for the past several hours. Bleh.

Hi everybody.

Welcome to all the newcomers around here. Great to have you hear.

Roberta, let me know what you think about the pumpkin soup.

Canned pumpkin? I've never had such a thing. Actually, I've never seen canned pumpkin. Other than baby food of course. We always eat pumpkin fresh.

Hi
Just stopped in for a cup of coffee and a slice of pumpkin pie.
I use canned pumpkin, I don't know how to get the inside of a real pumpkin to turn into pumpkin pie.

One of my bosses lived in Jamaica for a time, and pumpkin soup is popular there, too.

Using fresh pumpkin sounds like too much work to me. When I want to make something with pumpkin I get canned.

I like to make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies once every fall. Haven't made any yet this year since we have had so many other sweets around.

You can make a great spicy pumpkin soup using canned pumpkin!

1 can of pumpkin
1 small yellow onion
2 cups chicken broth
1 tbs minced garlic
1.5 tsp curry powder
.5 tsp coriander
.5 tsp chili powder
2 tsp dried red sweet peppers (optional; can use fresh ... 1/4 - 1/2 pepper)
(Optional: salt and pepper to taste)
Cook onion/garlic/red pepper (if fresh)
To blender, add pumpkin, chicken broth, all seasonings, onions/garlic/pepper
Blend well.
Simmer for 20-30 minutes (or longer, if desired)
(fabulous in the crock pot)

I don't think New Zealand and Australia have ever sold canned pumpkin that I've known of.
