Hi all:
Just wondering if you all were planning to watch the Olympics on tv? Personally, I will not be watching at all.

I will be watching with baited breath in Hangzhou, in a sports bar, with lots of Chinese people.

I prefer the Winter Games, but will be checking out a few events.

Here in Chicago, the city is pushing hard for the Summer Games in 2016.
I'm not holding my breath, though. The infrastructure just isn't here to support such a huge event.

With a couple of world record holders in the 100 meters? I'm all over that!! Track & field and swimming are going to be filled with record breaking performances. It's just too bad that in baseball's last time as a recognized sport we aren't sending our absolute best. Watch the Cubans roll all over everybody once again.

I may watch some of it. I'm more of a winter games person myself (LOVE curling!).
I'm more interested in the Puppy Games.

I'll watch some - simply because it is the Olympics and it is a part of history. I'm certain once my kids start school there will be talk of it as well.

The absolute best part of the Olympics are the....
Closing ceremonies...
YAWN!!! Bring on the NFL. Otherwise the only reason I care about the olympics this time around are to shed light on the criminals that are the Chinese leadership and their complete disregard of Human and Religious rights and freedoms. Some one please hold China accountable... Please!

That was the most incredible opening ceremony I have ever seen.
Also, this is, I think, the most important Olympics ever. China is the second most influential country in the world by a number of measures (if not the first), and based on the amount of importance they have placed on it...
Well, I'm happy it's gone so well so far. Absolutely gorgeous. I hope the weather is kind.

I missed the opening ceremony, but I'll probably be keeping up to date with how our athletes are going.

I used to watch Curling, but stopped in fear that the suspense might overload my cardiac system.

See if you can catch a rerun or find it online somewhere. I generally hate the opening ceremonies, but I just sat there in awe the entire time. It was amazing.

I stayed up until about midnight last night watching the opening ceremonies. I have never seen anything so amazing. The precision of all those drummers and dancers was unbelievable. I could not imagine how long it would take to perfect that. The special effects were amazing, too, and the giant globe with people running around it--even upside down! It was amazing.
I know some people are boycotting it, but I think the educational opportunity is too good to pass up.

Except for people of note like Kobe, The Williams Sisters and all the tennis pros, Allyison Felix, who comes from So Cal, who really cares about the Olympics? I mean really--if you don't live in the eastern time zones or if you do not have access to Directv where MSNBC, USA or the other NBC-owned stations has their east coast feeds, it does not make a lot of sense if you are wating for an event of proprotion and your event is tape-delayed.
A lot of people was complaning to the peacock network about the opening ceremonies being on prime time instead of being on early in the morning, where it should have been on. The forigen televison networks had the ceremonies on live, but NBC because they want to care about their finances had to put it on in prime time, which is a shame and a sham.
Boy, I miss Jim Mc Kay now...... 
Nothing against Lampley, but Mc Kay did bring drama as the host, describing what happened next and what going to happen.

It didn't bother me that it was on prime time. <shrug> It makes more sense than putting it on a time when a lot of people are going to be at work and won't get to watch it.

My wife wants to see the opening ceremonies, so I DVR'ed it for her, and caught a glimpse. She can watch it when I'm gone on my business trip next week. That regime leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that 50,000 drummers couldn't clear away. I might actually watch some of the actual athletic events, if I'm really that bored in Wisconsin.

I'm with Consecrated here! It's an EXCELLENT educational opportunity for my children. Last night I had several kids gathered around watching the opening ceremonies with me with my 10 year old looking up online where some of these obscure little countries, that we only hear about because of the Olympics, were located. EXCELLENT geography lesson if nothing else. And even with all the politics and garbage that is happening in the world this is a situation where, often times, we get to see the best of people.
And as for the professional at the Olympics - Even if they weren't there - I'd watch.

I actually care a lot about the olympics, and so do the athlets that are there (that aren't well known). It means the world to them just to be there, and be a part of it. It makes more sense for NBC to broadcast things at a time when the most amount of people will be home, and be awake so that they can enjoy it. I don't see it as a big deal at all. At least I get to see it. NBC is also broadcasting some of the events on their website, as are some of the foreign TV stations.
