does anyone here use the Orthodox study bible or the NET New English Translation?

i hear the OSB got mixed reviews and some churches use it for an evangelistic tool

the NET i am not sure about it i own one and i find it useful but at the same time I'm not sure how to use it i feel as though i could be getting so much more out of its numerous notes but I'm just not sure how

i asked someone if they liked it and they told me that they thought there was too much opinion and not enough scholarship ... that kinda hurt cuz at the time i loved it and thought it to be vary scholarly

Ask ten different Bible readers about any given version, and you'll probably get ten different answers. God doesn't command we use one version over another. If you like the NET, use the NET.

I would recommend using a couple of different versions when you study because each version has different strengths and weakness; you will get a much better picture of scripture when you look at several versions.

I like the NET because it has extensive translator's notes. They will give their thoughts as to why they chose a particular word of phrase. I think the NT translation is very good.

However, the OT translation is not so good. The wording is not elegant, rather wooden, and loses much of the poetic flow that the KJV has.

I like to use the NET for my NT studies. For OT, I usually go back to KJV.

I use the new OSB (OT and NT) and like it. I know many people found things wrong with it, but overall it's very good. It gives good background information and commentaries from the church fathers. Which version of OSB do you have?
