How can a non Christian face death with no worries or fears? Someone I know died recently and they were not a Christian. They suffered 3 heart attacks and they had terminal cancer (all in the space of just over a year) and yet nothing fazed them. This person had a really positive outlook and was always cheerful despite what they suffered. I find this difficult to understand how they could remain 'strong' despite not having a relationship with the Lord.

Does anyone have any suggestions why/how this is possible?

Just because someone isn't a Christian, doesn't mean they can't be really "good" people. Remember in the final days there will be many people who cry out to the Lord and he will tell them, "I knew you not". There are many honest good people, who have high morals in the world, unfortunately being "good" doesn't get you into heaven.

everything is a choice. Including our outlook on life and death.
we all choose how to face circumstances, we all choose what we want to believe.

Many are decieved into believing that they are ok and if they believe that unfortunately in many cases it will be too late before they realize differently. In other cases, God has given people over to a reprobate mind and I don't believe those people even realize there is a choice so they over show no remorse or fear.

I once watched a nonChristian man in his thirties die slowly of cancer, too, and I was amazed at his courage and fortitude. I can't explain it. Whatever held him up was false, however, because only in Christ do we have life after death. I so pity him.

Maybe the bigger question is, why do Christians fear death? Or maybe it's fear of pain; dunno. But to be absent from the body is to be with the Lord, and that's better than anything.

DH and I went to a "visitation" last night of a relative of a guy from our church. This guy has a huge extended family and most of them are believers. We signed the
guest book and viewed the body in the casket - an elderly, slender lady in a
beautiful blue dress. There was a picture of an older man in her folded,
work-worn hands. The woman standing there in a group of quietly talking
people said to me that that was the picture of Daddy that Mom had looked at
every day (I suspect they are together again now in great joy). Her daughter
told me what loving persons her mother and aunts were (one of whom was the
mother of the guy who goes to our church), and how the house had been always
filled with laughter and love. I can't think of a nobler tribute or finer
legacy.

Three words; ignorance, arrogance and(self)deception. Even the most pagan souls are responsible to the 'light' shown them, ' There’s no distinction in mankind for the same Lord is Lord of all, the same bounty and the same judgment for "whoever comes by His Victory we shall share in His just sacrifice."'(Romans 10:12,13)

'We're not called to saved 'em we're called to obedience to share the 'hope borne of Christ Jesus.' The is risk their's.

I kind of wondered about this.

I think you have to look at it through their eyes to understand it; not your own.

That said, I agree with everyone here who's said that the only promise of eternal life comes through a belief in Jesus Christ. I'm just saying that just because the person doesn't believe in Christ doesn't mean that they're can't see their death coming without fear.

I agree TorchHeart - the term 'putting a brave face on things' comes to mind. There are so many so very good at this - even amongst Christians.
