I know, I don't belong here - I'm a mom. But, I need advice from teen girls about where to shop for my 14 year old daughter. It's so hard to find clothes that reflect Christian virtues these days. My daughter likes to be comfortable - jeans, shorts, t-shirts, polo-style shirts, etc.... She's not too trendy, but doesn't like to look out of place. She's into sports, so lots of her clothes are athletic wear. She's not looking to wear the skin-tight clothes, but she wants to be up-to-date with her outfits. Where do you shop?? She's got a definite athletic build and wears size 15/17 pants, so that just makes it harder to find the cool clothes that fit. C'mon I know there is someone out there that can help me with this! Just make some suggestions of places to shop. I had heard there were some Christian designers that were making a point to design more modest apparel for teen girls; however, I can't find anything online. HELP!!! Thanks so much!!

uhh well there are namebrand clothing stores you can go to and not buy excessively tight clothes. me personally, i like rue 21, hollister, american eagle, forever 21 and places like that. just buy a size bigger. you should be able to find stuff at the mall if there's one near you. you can always go to the store websites and order online. say you find something too lowcut. wear a tank top or cami underneath. it's all about mixing and matching and finding what looks good together.

You could check out Lands End. My mom gets a lot of stuff for me from J.C. Penny and Sears.

For jeans and some shorts I'll shop at a cheaper store, like Old Navy. They always have a big selection of sizes and fits, so it makes it easier to find something that's not too tight. For my shirts I generally shop at a store that they don't have in the US, but I'm guessing its near equivalent would be PacSun. It's easier to find non-skintight shirts and longer shorts in stores that sell skate-type stuff. I've given up on all the teen stores like Aero and American Eagle. Their stuff is just cut WAYYYY too tight and skinny for most normal girls(although that doesn't stop them from buying the stuff), it's quite awful.

Just stick with JcPenny, their clothing is reasonably priced and they always have nice clearance racks!

I'm 14 also, and I'm into sports and have around the same build, so I can relate easy. =D I shop mostly at Kohl's; they have a nice selection of tops and jeans that aren't too low. Even if it is too low, just throw a tank top on under it. Plus, if she ever wants to wear skirts, they have skorts that are shorter, but not too short. Still modest. I also shop at Hot Topic for character stuff(Hello Kitty, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, etc.) and band stuff(Paramore, Boys like Girls, etc.). They don't have everything in the store that they have online (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/index.jsp0), but close enough. They do have a kinda goth/heavy metal look to the store and the music they play, but once you get past that it's not that bad. ^_^ Old Navy is nice too for shorts and jeans. Or JC Penney's. Typically I avoid Aeropostale, Abercrombie & Fitch, and American Eagle, just because their prices are way too high and, like rae_of_light said, the sizes are unnatural. It can be depressing just going in there because all of their stuff is sized for girls who are incredibly tiny. Plus Abercrombie has their whole advertising thing anyway. Hope that helped. =)

Like what Randy said, c28.com has lots of modest clothing. Cool stuff. I get all my jeans from Old Navy. You can easily find a good fit without it being too low or too tight. Shirt, I pick up anywhere. T-shirts from camp or VBS, and other shirts from Walmart, K-mart, or Belk. Generally, whatever happens to be on sale. Fortunately, the long t-shirt look is kinda "in" right now, so short shirts shouldn't be much of a problem. And like someone else said, for low cut shirts, get a cute cami to wear under it!

Thrift stores. On a good day, you can find most anything at a thrift store.

Yesss, thrift stores are awesome... They usually have a lot of modest stuff. I love getting jeans (or jean anything) at thrift stores because it tends to be worn in and not so brand-new-and-expensive looking.

Yup, everyone here is totally right-- you can find great modest stuff in mall stores and thrift shops if you're willing to do a little hunting. I know a bunch of Christian stylistas who have the most amazing way of layering an outfit and making it work, modest-style. They shop all different places, throw it all together, and make it look great. If you want to find a list of all the companies trying to put more modest fashion online, though, I'd recommend the Modest Clothing Site. It's run by a really sweet woman named Dara Marie who has a pretty complete list of companies going. I think she has nearly all the ones I have heard of. The Trendy & Modest page is: http://www.modestclothes.com/trendy/chic-modest-teen-clothing.html If you want help finding something in particular, you can e-mail me at jessica (at) sakurarose.com. I've pretty much scoured the internet for modest fashion stuff, so from homecoming dresses to little modest fashion fixes, if someone makes it I've probably seen it. Hope you find what you need! RESALE STORES! OH YEAH! And i shop at Aeropostale sometimes, but it's REALLY skinny, so I have to get like a large or so. And I'm thin! Walmart works, too. And if you find something cute that fits, but is too low-cut, then LAYER! YEAH! I guess you could go to goodwill, but i hate shopping there. They don't sort stuff by size. Just by color. About the athletic part. Yes, I like athletic too, most of the time. In winter, I wear sweatshirts. But if you want name-brand, try to find stuff at resale stores. It's cheaper. Summer, polo shirts.
