Not wanting to derail the J. Vernon McGee thread, I'm bringing this over here... quote:
ORIGINAL: bluestone Now if you wanted Lester Roloff dropped, I would agree with you. Oh, bluestone...surely you jest! Many pearls of wisdom come from the Roloff program! Like, "eat your vegetables raw, the way God intended! or at least boiled!" "Some of you that can't control your flesh have been sneaking out on Saturday afternoon for...ice cream!!!" I have more, stuck in my memory....

I have to agree with Bluestone. The sound of Lester's voice was my signal to change stations. However, not to hijack this thread, I enjoyed Oliver B. Greene and The Gospel Hour.

Even for just the fifteen minute show? Or did you turn it from the 30 minute show? Or was it the daily hour-long show that was too much? Maybe the Sunday afternoon 90-minute show? Lester was audibly prolific.

Interestingly enough, the banner ad at the top of this page is for J. Vernon McGee. I never heard a more gravelly voice than Oliver B Greene (I call him Ollie P Greene for short.)

"You don't know that Jesus had long hair. You've just seen pictures where some artist represented him that way. You don't know that. But, if he _did_ have long hair, if he came back today he wouldn't, because of the crowd which that would identify him with! I guarantee you that if he came back today, and he had long hair, he'd break his neck getting to a barber shop!..." ... "and I'd give him a ride!!!!"=Lester wisdom I'm glad I didn't post this in Theology!

"You hear some saying that the King James Bible is too hard to understand...and our modern people are supposed to be some of the smartest hickory nuts that's ever been. Back in the old days you'd have a man with no education, the preacher would preach out of the King James Version and he'd get saved every time!!" ==Lester wisdom All of these quotes are from memory so there may be a little poetic license but they are essentially accurate. I'm probably improving them.

Here's possibly the best one I remember but it's hard to beat the barber shop one: "Let me tell you the three steps for an addict to get back on his junk! Number one, a cup of coffee! Number two, a cigarette! Number three, he's down!!!!"

I worked for years at a place where my boss had all the radio preachers playing. So I have heard them all, if they were on the air twenty years ago. Lester Roloff was a nut. I actually knew a woman who had been in the home for girls he ran. They were beat. Badly at times. Roloff was a well known herbalist, and only drank water. He did eat raw vegetables. He preached that the best thing he ever did was jump over the denominational fence. He preached Baptists and Nazarenes were too liberal and were headed to hell. He called Sandi Patti a rock and roll singer. Listening to the Carpenters would send you to hell. He ranted about Keith Green. They actually died not too far apart, both in plane accidents. Roloff was terrified of dying in a plane crash, by the way.

Maybe he was the inspiration for Stephen King's character Brother Sunlight Gardner, who ran a "home" for boys in The Talisman.
