Four trees??? You mean she bought four trees? Or you decorated four trees? Or she ran into four trees while shopping?

Ok, I missed all the fun around here. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

I confess that every year I give more and more of our decorations away.

We have given away a ton of decorations, mostly the oustside variety, as we continue to minimalize.

Which doesn't exactly jibe with all the trees, but:

My mother decided that she wanted, as her only outside decorations, two lighted trees on either side of the front door and a lighted wreath on the door. The trees each stand in an urn. She found just what she wanted at Big Lots, for less than half of the price at Lowes or Walmart.

Mrs. K became enamored of the idea, so we ended up buying, carrying home, and assembling those four trees. I was not unhappy, as I don't go in for a lot of outside decorating, and this seems about right. We have new windows and blinds since last Christmas, and can't use the customary wreaths and candles in the window, so this is working out.

Then, we helped Mom put up her small inside tree, then we did our inside tree, then there is Cindy's classroom tree, then one for my office, so I had the joy of helping set up and decorate eight trees. Friday was decoration day.

The tree is my favorite decoration by far, though I like Cindy's inside stuff, like singing moose and snowmen, not to mention at least three creche scenes and the musical circus train.

Can I be the official Grinch of your thread, Kerr?

If I had my way, which of course I don't, we wouldn't put any decorations up until the 10th. I get sick and tired of looking at them all month. Or else, I'd just have a creche up and nothing else. I'd like that.

Me too Ruth...me too! My one was enough...the kids decorated the other one downstairs. They seemed to enjoy having their own to decorate and I didn't have to worry about them dropping or breaking any of my collectible ornaments!
How's Alex?

When we are old and wrinkled, can we share the same room at the retirement center?

We can hang one wreath on Christmas Eve and throw a party.

Well there always has to be one!!!

Seriously some can over do it. I've been watching the 25 days of Christmas movies on Family channel or Hallmark...cannot remember which...anyway...the "designer" decorated homes is a bit much for me. I too get tired of it...once CHRISTmas is over I start taking down the decorations no later than New Year's day. I have candles in the windows and a wreath on the door...that's it for my outside decorations this year because of living in a townhouse. CHRISTmas is my favorite holiday of the year but I think decorations can still be pretty when kept to a minimum.

Mr. Cranky's Sermon, Abridged

His intro discussed Deut 6:4-12, and the various examples in Scripture when people forgot God’s Words and neglected to study or remember the law, or even lost the book of the law completely.

Then he applied it to us today, and gave us 8 consequences of not being immersed in God’s Word (but said there are more consequences—these are just the 8 he wanted to discuss). Here are the eight, minus all the Scriptures and excellent commentary :

1. If we forsake His Word, we are being disobedient to God.
2. Our love for God will wane.
3. We will be driven by every wind of doctrine.
4. We will be at risk of forgetting that it is God who gives us life and all blessings in this life.
5. We will not be able to consistently resist temptation.
6. We will not be ready to give a defense.
7. We will not be qualified to teach it to our kids.
8. We will not remain in peace, but will be subject to turmoil and anxiety. We will be at risk of buckling under in the face of life’s pressures and in the face of evil things going on in the world around us.

There ya go!

Hooray! A kindred spirit.

Yes, we will share a room at the retirement center and do as we like. Because we're old and who's going to tell us no?

I don't have a problem with anyone else's decorations. I get sick and tired of my own.

I like Christmas okay (Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday ). I just wish there wasn't any shopping involved.

Lioness, when I was living at home, we didn't put up the tree (yeah, a fake one, I'm allergic to real) until Dec 23. Then, it was left up for the twelve days of Christmas, or until Mom felt like taking it down...never made it to Valentines Day, but it came close a couple times. But usually it was down by Jan 10.

Ronnie likes the tree up as early in Dec as possible. I don't know why, and ours is not up yet, but it probably will be by next weekend.

Kerr, Cindy's trees sound fantastic. If we put lit trees outside by the front door, they would be gone the next morning. Isn't that terrible? When my niece lived near here, she would say she was going out for a drive to see the 'ghetto lights' ....I must say, some people do go all out here, and not necessarily in any form or fashion. I'll have to take some pictures this year of our neighborhood lights.

My IL's home has been on a local Christmas tour a couple of times. It's a tour where people buy tickets to go through your home. EEEEK. I would not want people going through my home like that. And at our house, people would ask for their money back anyway.

"That's it? One scrawny Charlie Brown Christmas Tree, four socks hung, and a few snow globes? I paid $12.00 for that?"

My MIL decorates for about three weeks, and leaves her stuff up until after new years. Her house is large with many big Christmas trees and all sorts of grandeur.

Our stuff gets packed away the morning after Christmas. Some years I've been tempted to take it down after the kiddos open their presents.

I'm not exactly a grinch. Every year, we go to the woods and chop a Christmas tree. The kids love it. It's always a charmingly ugly tree.

I'd like to use a Christmas club on a few dumb, clueless shoppers out there this season that keep getting in my way.

If you're the Grinch, then I'll be the "Buddy" from Elf of the thread (except that I don't decorate quite as enthusiastically as he did). I love Christmas! I love Christmas decorations! I love Christmas music! I love Christmas shopping (online )! I love wrapping up Christmas presents! I love Christmas lights! I love Christmas!

Did I mention that I love Christmas?

Did you ever do any detective work in all your years with the Law?

I did realize that I left out a very important part of the Christmas season and I'm just shocked that I could forget it since it's such a critical component to this time of year:

Eggnog!!!!!!!!!

When we'd go to mom's for Christmas she'd have us all take down the tree before we left. I understand why she didn't want to do all the work herself but it just seemed so fast.

I usually take ours down the day after Christmas. I guess its a throw back to growing up poor. I can't stand the sight of a Christmas Tree with no presents under it.
