This almost reminds me of that time in early 1990's, Italian history when 2 crusading prosecutors (Falcone, Borsilino) became La Cosa Nostra's, "excellent cadavers."
And BTW: I believe it also fell on the heels of Roberto Saviano's scathing bestseller-turned-movie, "Gomorrah."
