My kids' (private) school is having a terrible time right now. It's been a great school - never perfect but we've loved it! This year there seems to be one problem after another. I started the year so hopeful. There were issues last year and our principal resigned; I really thought it was the perfect opportunity to get someone new and address some of those things. Well, the Asst Principal was put in the position and the problems have just gotten a thousand times worse! I think, the way it's going, enrollment will be HALF what it is now by next year...at best. This is so sad and scarey for me. I desperately don't want my kids in public school, not where we live. And the only good private school options, besides this one, are just way too far for me to travel. I don't know what we're going to do. I guess we need to pray about it. But we need to be smart too. Enrollment starts in January. I don't want to leave but I don't want to stay out of stubbornness or misguided hope either, that's not good for my kids. I'm on the Board and I just feel like we have to do something! The Chair has emailed the Pastor who is ultimately over the school with some questions (like is the AP in the job or is she still "interim" and is the job still open - if they could get a new principal like by Christmas, I think it might give some parents some hope :-/ ). I hate to be an instigator but I'm kinda thinking I don't have anything to lose at this point! If we're "elected" to represent the parents I feel like we need to be stepping up...just don't know what to do.

Definitely start with prayer and continue with prayer no matter what. Finding out if the principal job is still open is also important. What is the agreement for the asst. principal in the fill-in capacity? Is the AP able to instigate solutions, seek solutions, or is that person just a "hold" for the job? Possibly the Board could be invited to speak with the AP and find out what he/she envisions for the school and what plans would be implemented to accomplish that. Just a few suggestions ...

The AP/Interim/Principal (?) sits on the Board! Frankly, IMO, she's pretty defensive and answers are hard to get. I've been praying about it (and a couple other things) this morning and I definitely feel like I need to stick with the school but do what I can to see that issues are addressed and other parents' concerns are adressed. I don't want to go off half-cocked; I'll need God to lead me in what I say and to. But I'm also pretty much at peace that if things don't go well the next few months, I can homeschool at least for the next year or so. Praying and looking into it, it may actually be good for us. I could use some re-connect and refocusing time with my kids. Dd would be in 5th grade next year; I wouldn't put her in a new school just for one year before going to MS. I would hate to but I could pull out temporarily if I had to. I know that sounds like no way to get issues resolved but I can't sacrifice my kids making them hold on if the school's in turmoil. Maybe I could stay in the loop trying to see changes made or just stay informed on how things go and pray we are able to go back in a year or two. I'm getting ahead of myself. I just need to proceed knowing that I do have an option if necessary. A scarey but exciting option if I need it. Every parent that has come or that does come to me with issues or concerns, I'm going to ask them to write it out and email it or give it to me. I want to start collecting parents' frustrations and be ready to share those with the Pastor or whomever. I think our Board needs to step up to represent these parents and I'm going to talk to some of the others about doing that. I don't want things to fall apart. It's a fabulous school, it was, and it can be I'm sure.
