With fewer qualifications than Obama, Reagan - a great public speaker - won the CA governor's election and then became President....

Can the rise of the two be compared similarly? They both had great speaking ability that showed knowledge of politics and morality.

You are starting this thread as a joke, right?

He definitely knows the dastardly side of politics, but attributing Obama with, "knowledge of morality" is seriously insulting to people with knowledge of politics and morality.

Obama is a cult of personality, with whatever "morality" he needs to advance him to his next accomplishment.

Uh, if by experience (or lack there of) Reagan was the Governor of California...you know executive experience...seems to have more in common with Gov. Palin.

Btw, Solomonsprayer, where's the wisdom of starting all these threads...is this some kind of form of "shock and awe"? I like the theads anyway as they set me up with some really good punch lines.

Reagan had little experience before becoming Governor of CA ...(like Arnold Swaraeataeter....though not as bad).

Then tried to run for President right after that and failed. But he was a high-profile guy who spoke well like Obama. ..and rose quickly.

So you are comparing Obama's oratory skill as the same as Reagan.

Ok, I see Palin is a Governor, conservative (like Reagan) and a good orator in her own right, from small town America, was willing to stand up to the "powers that be", and from the West. Frankly I see Sarah Palin more in the mode of Reagan that Obama.

Well, both had similar rises to power with questionable qualifications. But both were great speakers, who showed political insights and morality.

I think Reagan had his own appeal, but not the same style as Obama. And certainly differing opinions. But both can be argued to have an interestingly similar path. ...

Both run for Pres. with questionable experience. Reagan failed his first attempt and maybe Obama will too. But both rose quickly though.

...Um Palin?...I'm not sure. I haven't heard her speak that much, except for the RNC....She does have appeal to the public though.

She seems to be holding her own with the "Big Boys"... Am I the only one whose noticed Obama hasn't had much to say...so much for that great communicator.

I would say the only thing Reagan and Obama share in common is their communication skills - but Reagan was an optimist about America, and skeptical of government, Obama is the opposite - and he believed we should lead with strength and clarity.

It's hard to imagine Obama saying, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!".

Maybe, "Mr. Gorbachev, I would like to talk to you about the wall sometime, and explore how our differences can be better dealt with through an exploration of our mutual commonalities, rather than those philosophical concepts that divide us."

Some of missed a major point of the OP...

Look at the "lack" of qualifications of both and their rise to power (Obama to Senate and Reagan to Gov. of CA..with Reagan having less qualifications at that time).....Then both tried to run for Pres. ..Reagan failed first attempt obviously, but he and Obama tried it with little experience as well. But both have eloquent speaking ability and have high-profile fame very early.

Of course they have different views/stances on things. (Both have good views/stances and both had terrrrrible ones as well.)

But let's stick to main point. ....Nature calls.

You know I just don't see your point as valid when you line the fact up.

As for chatter box....when you put your fingers in your ears and say at the top of your voice over and over again "conservative female"...it does sound a little like chatter.

You can try to compare them as orators but I can't even see that working. For the very reason you stated - Reagan communicated to inspire, Obama communicates to deceive and destroy . . . there's nothing that can bring the two onto the same plane.

I disagree that they share even that.

Here's Ronald Reagan giving an impromptu speech before the GOP convention in 1976:

For contrast, here's Senator Obama giving a speech as his teleprompter goes out:

For someone as concerned about the issue of health care as Senator Obama claims to be, one would think he could complete his point without need of a teleprompter.

LOL. I agree, I stopped watching his speeches so long ago, it's like listening to my old biology science professor in college. You needed ice on your eyes to keep them open.

Before he became president, Ronald Reagan was:

- A lifeguard who saved dozens of lives
- HS student body president
- A college football player
- Student body president of his college
- A broadcaster, including for the Chicago Cubs
- First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps
- A successful actor
- A six term union president
- An occasional columnist
- A two term governor of California

As you can see there isn't a lot in common with Obama.

Like I said, he was "unqualified" by Obama's critic's standards. When he ran for Governor, he had nothing to put down really other than brief military service and being an actor. But he was famous and could command a crowd. What does being an athlete or lifeguard have to do with governemtn?......This is exactly why Obama critics are ridiculous sometmies. ....So one-sided.

Then he ran for President right after becoming Gov........about exact same exprience as Obama had, but with much less educational experience, no teaching at a law school, no being a civil rights lawyer, no being a community organizer, no being a Senator, no authoring two books.

Look at his qualifications each time he ran, not his total qualifications over all those years.

What did he do? What was the relevant experience he had to be Gov.? ....acting/military.

What was the relevant experience he had for Pres. the first time he ran (like right now with Obama)....not much more, if not less than Obama.

Also for all those acheivements, Barack had more and could easily match those.
