I've been giving this some serious thought. With Obama seemingly unstoppable--having captured not only the usual athiestic and agnostic crew, but a disheartening number of Christians--our country is about to take the hardest left turn we've ever done. Unlimited abortion right up through birth, wealth distribution, the destruction of countless small businesses, ad infinitum: four years from now the USA may only scantly resemble what our forefathers had in mind.

So is the "great experiment" over? And if so, does this play into an endtimes scenario? Or will the Lord one day raise up another land, like ours once was?

There's no reason to be so dramatic.

You all have just won for so long that you've forgotten what it's like to lose.

People lose elections all the time (democrats more often than most, it seems).

Just because your opponent wins doesn't mean the country is ruined.

If you lose on November 4th (and there's no guarantee Obama will win), the world won't end.

You'll be depressed for a couple of weeks, perhaps avoid thinking about politics for a while, but in 2 years when this whole mess is revived you'll be ready again.

That's how things work.

I don't believe God is done with America by a long shot - but I do believe we are entering a time of testing and purifying. Have faith, SuspenseWriter - God is still in control! Read Habakkuk 3:17-18

No, God isn't done with us, He is just going to remind us how bad it gets when we put our faith in earthly Messiahs.

That's what I was going to say...

I believe there will be a little wrath from God, but I'm not worried about myself. I'm not supporting a baby-killing, homosexual-marrying, anti-hardwork/welfare mentality campaign.

Don't be ridiculous. We're talking about an election, not a holy milestone.

I seem to recall Bush being exalted by the religious right as a moral crusader eight years ago who would sweep into Washington on a divine cloud.

Tell me, how did that work out? Because those all-time low public approval ratings Bush keeps getting is sending me mixed messages.

I would love to see a single article from a mainstream conservative making this claim. Just one.

I think it's just leftist mythmaking to justify Obama worship.

I heard it all the time in 2000. The whole reason Bush was able to galvanize the right so well then was due to moral outrage over the Clinton-Lewinsky fiasco. Had that never happened, ten bucks says Dubya never would have been elected.

Plus, Bush backers couldn't be more delighted that Bush was (wait for it) a Christian....as opposed to every other president in US history.

Jack, your sense of perception is--let us say--unique.

I remember the election as well; I don't remember anyone of repute claiming that Bush was a 'moral crusader'. I mean if you want to compare him to Clinton, almost any candidate would be a saint in that regard, Jonathon Edwards excepted of course.

51% of Americans are Democrats, so much then for America being a "Christian" nation! More TOS 6 violation diatribes from the right-wing "righteous" Christians!

How could we possibly ever know whether or not God was done with us? After all, Israel was sacked in 70 ad and God wasn't finished with her.

TOS 6 violation? Ummmm, I think that's a bit of a stretch.

I have no idea what you are talking about.... was God, at some point, on "our side"? I thought His kingdom was not of this world... It seem's to me that He causes the rain to fall on both the just and the un-just. China is prospering. Saudi Arabia does pretty well too... not to mention the Netherlands.
What America? San Francisco or Tulsa?

What exactly are you talking about?

Losing is one thing - we endured Clinton for 8 years and we're marginalized in the Legislature. Everything Obama stands for, however, signals something gravely more drastic entirely.

To be perfectly honest, I've wondered the same things. I do hope I'm being pessimistic and dramatic. But as a student of history I can't help but think this is a definite turning point and I can't imagine America returning from where we're about to go.

Yeah, I was thinking about this today.

When Obama wins there will be a significant oppression of opposition voices - the crowd that is behind them isn't going to be satisfied with an election, they will want real power - and they won't have that with regular criticism of the adminstration coming from conservative and the opposition Republican Party. They will want to purge, and they will do everything short of violence (at least official violence) to get it.

We are going to see several actions taking in fairly short order to shut down bigger venues, like radio and tv to conservatives. And after that, there will be attempts to control the web, probably through the attempts to regulate and license various web outlets in a manner that is financially restrictive. And laws are going to favor the ACORN style voter registration and recruitment.

Get ready for change.

What makes anyone of us believe the US will forever be a superpower? The winds are shifting...take a look at Saudi Arabia...even US companies are heading over there to start building the new KAECcity (soon to occupied by as early as 2009).

I know...it sounds a bit too "Left Behind".

I won't swear to it, but if I remember correctly, Israel was the only people and nation called the chosen of God. Many Christians believe that because of the founding principles of the United States and the relative prosperity enjoyed in our nation that somehow we are special to and abundantly blessed by God. I even heard a preacher characterize the United States as the New Testament Israel of God. I love this country and I love the Lord Jesus Christ and I feel blessed to be an American. But, I don't think America has any more of a special place in God's heart than any other people.

If He is, its time to watch Don Cherry and drink molsens.

I don't think the election of Obama will be such a threat to our nation because....

democrats love power and their own power so much they will fight amungst themselves more than against the republicans.

Obama is no leader like Reagan was, galvanizing both sides to his goals. No way. No how.

Obama will be impeached before his first term is over...the truth will come out.

Obama will not get elected.

McCain will win big.

McCain will win by a small margin.

Obama and McCain will get married.

I mean....no one knows what God will do. Ya get the nuts who believe every thunderstorm is God walking away from america because they think the sky is falling.

Its no wonder Obama has a chance in this fear filled nation.

This thread reminds me of something a friend of mine shared with us. I use to sing on a worship team where one of our leaders was a high ranking officer in the Air Force ... He is currently a Major General ... an incredibly Godly man and wonderful bible teacher.

He made this statement to us one evening, "You know, when you look at the end times prophesy, the United States just isn't in the picture, which means we will be out of the picture as it gets closer. I can tell you from my vantage point (referring to the information in his position) I can see it coming."

Just something I sometimes ponder.

My father preached the same message. But I heard a message the other day by David Jeremiah and he believes the US of A is one of the "young lions" (from Ezekiel 38) and considered part of Europe. Something to think about...
