Is it me or is anyone is disapointed with NBC's coverage of the Olympics thus far? They must have twisted the IOC's arms to get the coverage of the major Olympic events, but unfortnatly, people in the left coast get cheated because they have to wait a few hours for the results. Then again, with the internet age, we in the west coast can read what the results are before everything else is over. On the west coast, we have to wait until an ungodly hour for Michael Phelps' win and his chase for his seven gold medals. Same with Dara Torres' second place finish in the relays. It is not right, in my opinion for one part of the country to be cheated of "live" performaces because of corporates bottom dollar. I wished that ABC and/or Disney had rights to Olympic coverage. They were the best in what they done. Nothing against Lampley or Costas, but they do not have the appeal that the late, great Jim Mc Kay had. What do you think?

A little on the way they are editing it. I understand they have time constraints but don't get to the peak of a race and then start on the human interest stories. You can watch some of the stuff online live, but with a twelve hour difference it will be an ungodly hour anyway. Or if you have a Tivo, tivo some of it and skip the commericials. I just turned on the canadian station and they aren't even broadcasting right now either. So its NBC for now. USA is showing soccer (not my sport)

When the games are a half world away, there is going to be a lot of inconvenience. Should other news outlets have a gag order on the results until NBC can broadcast them? Or should they broadcast them all live, which means it'll be in the middle of the night for almost all of us? What's the best solution? I think NBC is doing as well as they can under the circumstances. I recall the same types of complaints when the Olympics were in Australia, Japan, etc. - it's one of the downfalls of globalization, but there's not much NBC (or any other network) can do about it.

How does the west coast get stuff later than the east coast? You guys are three hours behind us. -Dan.

Its been awhile since they had the rights (did Disney even own ABC while they had the Olympics?) so there is no telling what ABC's coverage would look like now. But on the good side it would at least keep the ESPN networks busy for a couple of weeks. But then again how many prime events would be on cable ESPN instead of broadcast ABC. ABC already gave ESPN Monday Night Football so the pattern is established. NBC doesn't have another network big enough or appropriate enough (i.e. sports related) to pawn off the big events to (USA is the biggest but they aren't ESPN). I'm still waiting for Olympic coverage on the Sci Fi Channel. Come up with some appropriate events for that and I do say that's must see TV.

In the past stations were respectful enough to give spoiler alerts before reporting results but I'm not sure if they are doing that this time. It would be commendable and probably the best compromise but broadcasting is an awfully competitive field. I notice ESPN couldn't show highlights from the USA's game with China (they only showed still pictures) several hours after it happened (and was shown live). That's kinda cheap but again, competition. It may also be an Olympic Committee edict and not a restriction from NBC.

I'm not disapointed at all. At least I get to see it. I also enjoy Costas. I agree with much of what ta_mosquito said.

I agree with Trish but one of my biggest Pet Peeves is that I heard Bob Costas saying something about the Cross Country Horsing event was going to be covered on a channel we do not subscribe to on our Satellite provider, OXYGEN I believe it was, so I started thinking wow, does this mean they are starting that nonsense as well? I also thought Costas interviewing the President and trying to get him to make statements on global policy and so forth was a little lame, and it distracted from the events.

Costas is definitely wearing a rug. And a very bad one. But he's still one of the better announcers around. I can't complain about NBC's coverage. There have been times when I've had five channels showing five different events. Tough to decide which ones to watch. I have one channel devoted to soccer, one to basketball, MSNBC, CNBC, USA, something called UHD, NBCHD, and regular old NBC. I get the Oxygen channel, too, although I didn't notice any Olympic coverage on it. Even the timing isn't too bad, I've watched the medal rounds of the swimming live for the most part. All in all I'd say they're doing a very good job.

They're doing a fine job, especially under the time constraints and other issues. Since I don't have cable - all I can say is "thank God for the internet"!

I think it's great that they are streaming a lot of the comps live on the web.

I just turned on the canadian station and they aren't even broadcasting right now either. CBC broadcasts from 6am to 12pm and 6pm to 12am. I haven't watched any NBC coverage yet, only the Canadian coverage. I usually turn to NBC when I'm bored with what's on the Canadian station, but I've been pretty impressed so far.

I might not have CBC or CNBC (oops). It might be a local station from Windsor. I'll check later. I always forget about this station unless the Olympics are on.

I grew up in the Detroit area....and, always liked having the option of tuning into CBC Channel 9 from Windsor, if ABC was showing something I didn't want to watch.... (more than anything....CBC was fabulous for their "Hockey Night in Canada"! games).....

I am disappointed with those snotty people commenting on gymnastics, and from what I see so far they are nott the greatest. Bob Costas has to be wearing a rug, and I am starting to think the Judges favor the Chinese.

This is my first Olympics with an HD tv. I am happy just to watch all the moving, flowing colors and people.

Well, I'm not really disappointed, but it is hard to get up for work every morning because I'm up so late. So, I figure the deal is, get the Iconic events out of the way in the morning & then they go to lunch. Seems a lot of the morning events wrap up right at their lunch time, which means 11:00 at night for me. When the winter olympics goes to Vancouver we won't have to suffer this bad. kd
