Where I am. Jurors are only paid $12 a day and, I was wondering if it SO important. How come the pay is so minimal. I mean in a metro area you have to pay for parking, gas, and something to eat. That could easily eat up the $12 that you have to wait for. You have to pay the above costs up front.

many times, doing your "civic duty" means not getting paid or reimbursed for it. You do it OUT of "duty" to your community.....and for nothing else.

I have served a few time, one we were sequestered for over 3 weeks, it was difficult, but you are correct Kernsfamily it is a duty and should not be shirked. Thanks RC

I have served on three juries and had to show up once more but didn't get on one. We are supposed to be reimbursed for our service but have NEVER received a check. I still go when called, although here, when you are summoned you call into a number twice a day, every day for a week and they tell you when you need to report. If you make it through the week without having to report then you're jury service is done without having even to enter the courthouse. This keeps a whole lot of people from sitting down all day doing nothing waiting in the "jury pool room".

We get $5/day for the first three days, then $20. But our employers are not required to pay us for the time we miss. Last time it cost me 5 vacation days.

Last time it cost me 5 vacation days. really? wow... at ANY place I have worked at....if you get called to Jury Duty, then you are automatically EXCUSED.....and, that's that.... Here's the Policy directly from my Employee handbook.... Full-time employees who are called for Jury Duty, or subpoeaned to serve as a witness, will be paid for all time missed. Full time hourly employees will be paid the full 8 hours per day, and salaried employees will continue to receive their full pay. I took a company to small claims court back in June (i won!)......for the day of my court date, after talking with HR, i was informed to just "take the day off" (it would cost me NO vacation/sick or any other time off), and not to worry about it at all.....

I was called to jury duty once....back in fall 2004 or so (not long after I started working here)...... they had a system, to where you "reported" at 9ish or so in the morning....then, did "jury selections" FIRST THING......which means that IF you were NOT going to be on a jury, you were out by noon....at the latest.....anyway...they did a good job of making sure that they didn't waste "non jurors" time....
