Ok, so today my dad has to be somewhere at 8 am. Since it is an hour away, he is leaving at 6 am. I was wondering if I needed to go along so I asked God to wake me up at 5 am if I needed to go, and I woke up at 4:53. I called his house, and got no answer. I took a shower and got dressed. I called again at 5:30, and he told me that the call woke him up, but that I should go back to bed since I hardly got any sleep (I don't think I fell asleep until about 3. So I prayed, "Lord, if you really want me to go, have him call me back." thinking that my purpose here might have been to wake him up so he could get going in time. I'm wondering if that really works, and if I'm making a mistake.

An "If..then" prayer if giving God a condition, and in a sense is dictating to God what His options are. I don't think He's under any obligation to honor the conditions we ask. Perhaps He might do so mercifully, but He never promised us in His Word that He would honor a conditional prayer. However, we can trust Him to keep that situation under His control and His protection, and know that He is watching lovingly over your dad. :-)

I'm wondering if that really works, and if I'm making a mistake. Remember, God hears our prayers, and He knows our hearts, and yes God can and does answer in ways like this. I have had many different things like this happen to me and I knew without a doubt, that it was Him.

Remember Abraham's servant's prayer when he went to find a wife for Isaac? He got very specific, and it happened just the way that he asked. God does answer prayers like this if we are specific, so just let Him lead you.

I would say it's not wrong to pray that way, but also realize that God doesn't always play by our rules. Then we'd get people praying things like, "God, if you want me to go on a date with that man/woman, make him/her say something when I go up to them and say hi!" Well, of course they'll say something, so they'll then have that misguided direction which they think is from God, but is really from their own sense of "Ooo, they look cute." And then when they get rejected, they'll blame God. A bit of a silly example, I know, but I hope you see the point. God can sometimes work through those prayers, but sometimes He has His own agenda that is better than the plans we make.

I had this guy ask me out, and for 3 months, I would say yes, ok, we can go out, and at the last moment, I would find a reason not to go. I know this was wrong of me, but I would really want to go, but then begin to have these feelings that I didnt need to go, it was really strange. This went on for 3 months. Well 2 weeks ago, he ask me again, and even came by my work for a little while, and we were suppose to be going out the next night. Again, I had these feelings that I didnt need to go. I was sitting with my parents and telling them how I was feeling, and i said, I feel really bad because for 3 months i have done this to him and I just cant cancel again, so Im going, but I also stated this, "I said, if its not meant for me to go out with him, then Im going to trust that God will stop this date, that some how, it will be cancelled." And I also prayed, asking God if it wasnt meant to be, to please cancel it for me, because I just wasnt sure. The next day, after work.....I get a text from him saying, "Abby, Im going to have to take a raincheck, Im headed out of town on business." LOL.....I said thank you God!

What then? Years ago my husband and I were looking at houses to buy. We were in a rental property and had signed a lease for a year. The lease ran out in March and we started looking at houses in January. We found a house straight away. After we put a bid on the house, I got cold feet. I didn't want two house payments at the same time whether for only one month or more. I prayed to God that we had made a mistake and asked Him to help us out. The people whose house we put a bid on counter offered our bid. We were released from the agreement! Like you, I was so grateful! My husband and I then waited a couple more months and then resumed looking for a house. That was certainly a lesson learned! God spared us from having to pay two house payments at the same time.

You know whats so weird, I thought I would be ask again too, but i havent been, lol...I havent heard from him since. And Im ok with that. He's an FBI, and to me he is a little strange, and it maybe because of what he does, very secretive, doesnt talk alot...and some red flags as well. So Im happy if he never contacts me again.
