I have this coworker who for some reason just annoys me. She's not a mean person, most of the time we actually along OK, it's just that once in a while she'll say something that just gets under my skin and it sticks with me. Then every once in a while that thing will pop into my mind and bother me all over again. She makes comments that to me seem just plain unnecessary and when I call her on it, she just doesn't get it and accuses me of being overly sensitive. I am overly sensitive when it comes to her. She just has a way of making certain things sound like criticism, and another person could say the same thing to me and it wouldn't phase me a bit. Does anyone else know someone like that? I'm tired of having this reaction to her and I really have been praying about it, that God will help me stop feeling this way. It's gotten to the point that the very sound of her voice grates on my nerves. She doesn't have an unpleasant voice at all, but to me it's like fingernails on a blackboard. Is there a mental disorder that causes this? I'm honestly wondering if there's something wrong with me. Or is it just that all the little things over the past few years have built up and it's causing this nervous reaction, or whatever you want to call it. The worst thing is, she sits in the cubicle next to me and is on the phone a LOT. I don't want to ask to be moved, because I LIKE my location, I have a window and a pleasant view. About all I can do is listen to music on my headphones to drown her out. Anyway, what do you folks think? Am I nuts, or what? And please pray for me!!

Praying now, Lady_Daffodil. A pastor once said God puts an irritating person in every church (and I suppose every group that has a Christian in it) to teach the others unconditional love.

Loving others has got to be God's hardest command because we sinners are so unlovable. And you've got a star specimen next to you. Sigh.

Can you step back and think, "I'm in this job, doing my job, and one of my coworkers is irritating but it's only part of the job and she won't be here forever, and there's other things here as well"? Then when she doesn't act nice, you can say, "There she goes again" and laugh to yourself.

Remember how Jesus gave us good teaching and then died horribly, and few people cared or understood. But it changed the world.

You're sitting next to a hyena. Don't be surprised and disappointed when she acts like a hyena again. Just laugh to yourself and get on with your day. And look for ways to bless her. Who knows, she might come around. You and I did.

Behold, a young man who got it 40 years before I did. May God continue to prosper you in wisdom!

And God doesn't send people to hell, as such - we were all going there because we were born in a fallen state. He died horribly to keep us from going to hell. If we refuse the rescue, it's our choice.

Very well put, Deermousie.

Thanks for your prayers and your encouraging words in your previous post. I tried to answer it, but I got some kind of server error and I think my message went into cyberspace.

I think I know why God stuck this woman in my life. I realized a while back that the very qualities in her that irritate me, are qualities that I myself have. I frequently express my opinion when it's totally unnecessary, just to have people know what I think--and it really doesn't matter. I think God is trying to show me what NOT to do! I'm trying to curb this, but being a fallen human being have not always been successful.

I just gotta keep praying and trusting in God!

I believe annoying people exist so that we can appreciate the other nicer people more.

Just imagine, if the whole world was full of extra nice, polite, lovable people. We wouldn't be able to differentiate between them. And loving lovable people isn't that difficult after all - is it?

So every so often we meet someone who is a pain in the neck ... and in time we have an even lower opinion of them !!!

Now here's the challenge ... how about making an extra effort to love them all the same. Even though they have an in-built annoyance finely tuned in our direction.

Didn't Jesus say something about how easy it is to love those who love you; and that we should love our enemies as we love ourselves?

Matthew 5:43-48

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor[g] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,[h] 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors[j] do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

I remembered this, our Pastor used this for his sermon on this last Sunday!

Thank you Popsi.

That's exactly the Bible verse I was thinking of.

Some people are just annoying and some people we just cannot get past the point of simply being cordial to. I am not going to sit here and tell you that you're to be best friends with everyone around you.

Another verse that comes to my mind is the one about don't complain about the speck in someone else's eye until you remove the plank in your own eye!

You're welcome, Lady_Daffodil (love your name; I just planted 80 daffodils. Can't wait for spring!). My message box is full... and I am embarrassed to say I don't even know how to get to it. I'm not swift with computers.
Oh, wait; Misty just sent me instructions! Yay!

Hoo, boy, I hear ya! Hahaha! It's worse when it's your kid! Thank God my kid got past that stage and now is better than me. I am so grateful!

It's a wonder God loves any of us. I guess that's what makes Him God. I hate being a sinner, and heaven will be such a relief.

Some people have the knack to push the right(or wrong)buttons to try to illicit(any)response; they will what they do, you can't control them but you(we)can control ours. Often we're so intent on the behavior of disobedience, our own or on another's part, that we fail to set priorities to obedience beforehand. Set standards for our behavior(obedience to sacrifice/Victory)prior to the conflict(ing personality). Perhaps, rather then responding, ignorance, a pleasant 'Excuse me!' or 'Oh! are you familiar with...!?

If someone ever asks you that question again, tell them a righteous and just God does. Why should He be forced to tolerate the sin of unbelief, and why shouldn't He punish it. After all, if He created all things, then the least the creation could do is acknowledge that He is.

That sounds like something God would do. Who's to say that He doesn't have a sense of humor. It is a way to teach us that we are all pretty much unlovable to some degree, and encourages to keep changing to get better.
