Yes it's a sport and I have met many intelligent people and successful people in the ring. I have also met a lot of people who I would not associate with and they are the ones that have an attitude they think they will prove in the ring. Fact is mostly both parties cop a beating when two skilled people get in together. The courage in it attracts me most also the respect you get from each other.
I know you don't have to get in there for respect because I respect a lot of people I know whom I respect can't fight their way through a wet paper bag. Sometimes effective witnessing doesn't just happen once but over time. Some people, even Christians judge that it's not "Christian" and I know a lot of people would also judge that women shouldn't go in there and it's not "Ladylike". I like to box with someone for technique. Just move around together and learn more.
It has been good for my overall development and healing. May sound like a contradiction but it works.
It can also be very deceptive for me. Especially in a victory because the praise of men is easy to fall into. I have to keep evaluating where I'm coming from and then continue to die to self.

Thses are often the same people that would stand by and let armies and criminals mow over their country,lives,property and even thier families. Not always but very often.
I ask, are you convicted or just confused? There is a big difference.
It's what you make of it. It is a sport. A compettition. If you're not competing,then it is exercise and or an art of self defense. In any or all the cases,you are in it to get better,to improve in the art mentally,physically and spiritually. Lessons learned that carry outside the ring,work ethic,training,practice,determination and yes, fighting.
I'm not into ladies boxing but I have no problem with it. Especially if it helps them learn to defend themselves.

I am convicted and not confused, just thought I'd get that clear for starters  . Got a grandaughter whose name is clear 4 yrs ago and since then I've been clear.
I don't compete in tournaments but I do compete with people who are competing in tournaments and I get in there because I know I'm gonna win, otherwise I wouldn't do it, with both men and women. Got to look after the temple  . I don't like the word 'lady' because of different reasons and before you ask; no I am not a women's liberationist. There are a lot of women who are scared, or dainty, or plain old whimps and totally dependant on men and I am not one of those, although I can be quite dainty with my twinkle toes . I dance as well, though not a lot lately.
They look at me funny in the gym because I get in there with tough guys and girls and I've got my girly shorts and ballerina slippers on for my workout . Actually they don't know where to look when they look at me in judgement because I don't look tough (only when I eat blueberries) but I am not shy. Defending mine and myself are big in my list of priorities but also, you know, I am a little retarded and it has taken me a long time to do things that others would've done when they were young. I had another job holding up buildings (that's another story).
I am convicted and I guess when I look close at where I am at it seems like the wilderness, although I thought I would've been outta here by now!  I think , perhaps the wilderness is a constant experience for those who seek to continue to die to self each day. I am also equivalent to black belt in CQC (close quarter combat), though I haven't got a licence to teach yet. I got attacked a lot at school and in prison and my reflexes got quite good.
Anyway, it's a spirit I keep coming up against and I am working through it. Good to hear other people's experiences who are walking the same road. That spirit that judges and separates me from those who I would otherwise fellowship, that is.
Also it plays on my ego when I beat a 29 yr old who is on top of the game, you know, that's pride and I don't like it one bit because when I get proud I stop learning and even as a teacher you should continue learn. I have been a lot more comfortable in the ring, gliding a lot more and not so stiff in my upper body either, I am more in control and it feels good. Also a lot tighter whilst being loose. More compact with my moves. I feel like the queen on the hill sometimes............ what was that? Did someone say over the hill , cool get in the ring! ha! ha!

On the subject of shoes: perhaps I should get a pair of those dorky looking ring shoes so I keep from twisting my ankle

If you're convicted by the Lord you should stop.
If by peers and family, you should work it out.
I've been in and out of the gym and on and off the mat for 20+ years and never thought the Lord wanted me to quit. If I had I would've stopped.
I always believed He wanted me prepared for what may happened. Ya know, be prepared. But if I believed He was convicting me of participation I would stop. He certainly would have a different path for me to follow.
