My wife and I live in a rural community of about 22,000. If you eliminate children and those who can't/won't vote you have about 12,000 - 15,000 eligible voters so I expected long lines and a scenic tour around the firehouse neighborhood while I found parking. Boy, were we surprised.

Because we have children to send off to daycare, we arrived at our voting area only to find that there were few cars in the parking lot and NO WAITING . When my wife asked the ladies at the table about it they told us we had just missed the morning rush and were in that "lull"period. All the machines were working and we had only one person ahead of us. Woo Hoo. We even made it to work early.

How was YOUR voting experience?

Voted on Sat the 25th. I work in Harris County Texas, right next door to a polling place. The lines here were LONG. I sorta expected the same thing where I live (next county over, still rural). Got there about nine in the morning and walked right in and got the the machine with no wait. There were about 12 machines and they were all in use.

Voted straight party ticket. First time I ever did that. Took about three minutes from the time I walked in the door till I walked out.

When I arrived 40 minutes before the polls opened, I was 6th in line. We moved inside the doors of the building 20 minutes before the polls opened and the line was down the hall, out the doors and well into the parking lot.
3 wards vote in the same building and I was voter 6 in my ward.

I must say this was a first for me to be early, before polls opened. I kinda did it in homage to my late hubby. He would have been proud of me today.

I voted in the comfort of my own home. The bummer was standing in line at the post office to mail my absentee ballot. I only had to wait about 2 minutes.

Quick, as it was in 2006 and in 2004.

In all 3 situations, I simply had to walk to a nearby public school. There were no lines. It was still very early, and I didn't even have to present photo ID (which I do not agree with - just in case, I brought 3 proofs of address: 2 recent bills and the very sample ballot sent by my state's board of elections as well as my driver's license and passport).

I spent perhaps a total of 5 minutes inside. They found my name, I signed twice, and voted.

I know he won't win, but the representative of the Constitution Party, Chuck Baldwin, got my vote.

We waited about forty-five minutes or so.

I was pleasantly surprised. We were back home in about an hour. The polling place was very crowded but things moved quickly and smoothly. The poll workers did a GREAT job! There was not that much of a crowd when we left (around 7:30am) so I think most people tried to get there before work.

Just, literally, got home from voting. I get out of work at 7. That was when the polls opened. When I got there at 7:45, there was a long line....probably a hundred people in front of me.

I got home at 9.

Here in Florida we are still suffering over the percieved problems of 2000. For the third presidential election they are trying something new.....paper ballots that you fill in an oval to vote then feed it into a machine to read it.

It was a long wait about an hour and 15 minutes, but it went pretty smoothly. A few people who weren't registered and they slowed things down.

It was fine, it was when they first opened so there were no crowds, just showed our ID and voted. Then visited with some friends for a while.

Thanks

I was very surprised. I had heard on the news last night that my precinct had the largest registered population for the city. I think many others heard that too, so we all showed up early. The line was wrapped around the hotel. I got there at 6:40 & it was a good thing I got there early even though the line was around the building. Once the lines opened, everything went very smoothly. I noticed the letter groups had been changed since the primaries & that seemed to help w/ keeping the lines uniform. I got to the table in 5 minutes! Traffic was pretty bad getting out, so I'm glad some policemen showed up to assist. I did make it to work on time. It's pretty quiet up here, so many must have waited till 7! kd

Got to the polling place and since my driver's license address and my new registered voting address didn't match they sent me home to get a utility bill or something. So I grab a bill and this postcard I got from the Ohio BMV for my address change and here the worthless address change card wasn't good enough so I showed the bill.

It was a screwy vote for me though since I'm new to the area and I was totally screwed up on my house vote. I am just barely in a different district. Vote kind of split between the two parties though had I been informed I would have voted for the Rep guy instead of the Dem just because Regula was such a big fan of the bailout. : /

I was going to stay awake and wait for the ACORN people to come pay me to vote a few more times but they're obviously doing a good job of checking ID. I did vote Baldwin but I will start looking into the Liberterian Party more. If they're actually a party now and not a bunch of guys sitting around smoking dope, drinking coffee from their NORML mugs and whining about having to pay taxes I'll consider giving them a try next time.

I did the same but dropped it in the mail box. Did you do that to check the postage? What was it by the way?

I sent mine with two of the forever stamps, so whats that like .86 or something? Hope it was enough. Never got it back so I guess it went.

Took about 45 minutes to actually get to the station.

Not much problem at all.

Around here, if you get one of those stickers to prove you voted, Starbucks is giving a free cup of coffee. Are they doing that in Florida?

I got my sticker. I plan to use it for a free cup of Starbucks coffee. If I play this right I could hit several different Starbucks today. No problems voting it just took over an hour even though we got there when the polls opened. Next election I think I may be voting absentee.

We have so many rich lawyers and rich lobbyists in our county that drink at the trough of big government that I expect the lines to be very, very long as they vote to ensure all those tax dollars come it for them to grab their piece of the pie.

That's the reality of wealthy Maryland suburban DC politics.

I live on the other side of the tracks; but, am forced to venture over to the rarified air to vote. I guess they need some not-so-rich republicans to give that polling place a little balance.

WAIT!!!! It just hit me!!!

The reason they want us to vote there is to provide cover for the vans of homeless ACORN voters when they arrive. Those vans would stand out like a sore thumb if the only other cars around the polling places were Mercedes, BMWs and Bentleys.

ACORN NEEDS my neighbors Hondas, Dodge minivans and my trusty old Mercury!

For Starbucks to give out free coffee to only those who vote it could be seen as pandering for votes. So, they have had to redefine their offer and they now will give out a free tall coffee to anyone.

Wow, what a novel concept!! NEVER in my entire history of voting in this Democrat Machine city... have they ever asked for ID.

I arrived when the polls opened at 6:00 AM sharp and there were 8 people in front of me. The entire process took 25 minutes because I just had to vote no on every judge on the ballot.

Just think how many conservative christians would have voted if Krispie Kremes handed out free donuts to those who voted...McCain would win in a landslide.

Dunkin Donuts is giving free coffee to those who have an "I voted" sticker. I'm hoping that the Chipotle here is giving free burritos again this year.
