Our air conditioner is off this week, and will continue to be off, hopefully! It's only in the 60s here today (extremely unusual) and it's supposed to be in the 70s over the next 10 days or so. We've had a very mild summer. We ran our AC through a lot of of July and August, but there were weeks in there when we didn't have to turn it on at all. We ran it some in May and June. Mostly when it's humid and sticky (we don't turn it on until we're in the upper 80s). This has been a very unusual summer in our part of the country. Typically the AC runs non-stop from May-September with 100+ temps in July-Aug-Sept.

Since July it's been off maybe five or so days. But some of that was because our neighbors like to sit on the porch and smoke and it blows into our windows (it's a townhouse type setup). Having quit after smoking for 30+ years I have a very low tolerance for cigarette smoke.

I live in Minnesota. This Summer has been very mild this year. We have an air conditioner with a heat pump. It has not switched on that often.

We have a two story house and when we built it fifteen years ago, we put in a whole house fan. It requires larger attic vents and is located in the second story ceiling above our stairway. We turn it on about 8pm and it pulls all the heat of the day out of the house and brings the cooler night air in. It was the best investment we could have made. We do have A/C but used it only three days this summer and that is about the norm.

We used ours less this summer then last but more this week then I wanted to. I can tolerate warmer temps then my hubby can and my kid's bedrooms get so warm at night. Blessings, Garsy

I spent the first half of the summer in Louisiana, and the last half in Georgia. We ran the a/c every single day, all day, and are still using it. As a matter of fact, I use the ac probably 10 months out of the year, and have been known to run the heat in the morning to get the chill off of the air, and then need the a/c in the afternoon and evening.

We're in Texas, so we use ours every day during the summer, as well as ceiling fans. That keeps the apartment at about 80*.

Every day. The air conditioner only gets a short break during the winter months.

We've used ours a lot. Our apartment gets bright sun all day long. Even with the blinds closed it is still very hot, so we keep the a/c in the living room on whenever it is sunny. My husband doesn't have much tolerance for the heat.

I turned mine on in early May & it is still running along with several fans. I can not take the heat. I never open the windows because I do not want all of the pollin comming inside & setting my allergies off.

Live in TX..you'll use it every single day..that is if you want your home cooler than about 84 degrees. If you live down here and live in an older home that isn't super tight like some of these new ones, you could set the T-stat on 76 and the AC very well might not be off for more than 5 minutes all day, every day. Of course at night you'll get a little break, but even then it will be on I would say at least 50% of the time. The flip side would be we can also have very mild winters so heating our homes wouldn't be near the expense as it would up north.

It was on most of the summer and still is becuase it's close to 90 here. I have it cooler at night because my bR is on the 3rd floor and I need it cool to sleep.

We had it on from mid-June to mid-August. My hubby just took them out of the window last week. None of us are very tolerant of the heat, so we had it on when it was above 80. Our electric bill is outrageous. We don't use the heater much in the winter though, so it evens out.

We have had a milder than usual summer here but we still ran the air every day except a handful. It is off now and I hope to have it off more than on from now on. It gets very humid here and once it hits the mid 80's plus humidity the air goes on.

For us in Minnesota, I would guess its been on for about 2 weeks. But this is not every day - maybe a few times it was twice in a row. Its been a cooler summer. Right now we are only have 60, no more then 70 this week.

we live in a billion degree weather, but have no money to run the ac. we've probably used it maybe a dozen times this summer. usually on weekends at night when the swamp cooler makes it hard to watch movies from the noise.

How much the a/c is used really depends a LOT on where you live. I live in south Mississippi (with ANOTHER hurricane trying to come this way), and I use the a/c daily. There may have been a few days when it didn't turn on much, but it's turned on more than once every day since probably the first of April and probably will until mid-October...and I keep the thermostat relatively high. When I first moved to Mississippi I thought I could get away without having an a/c. I had survived 110 degree heat in New Mexico without a/c --the hottest part of the day the house got up to around 90 inside, but when the nighttime cooling kicked in (60's) I'd open up the whole house and cool it down, shutting everything up in the morning when it started heating. I figured I'd do the same in MS...since the days didn't get much above 95 most of the time, I had the same house (MH), I figured I'd make out OK...I figured wrong. Where we had 40-50 degree shifts in temperature in New Mexico, they were closer to 5-10 degrees in MS...it didn't cool off enough at night to get the temperatures down to livable levels, PLUS the humidity...I made it from Sept. when I moved here through about mid-April the next year and had to buy an a/c.

We're in Phoenix- it typically breaks 100* in late April and won't even start to cool down again until at least October (the thermometer today read 105*). We had a new AC unit put in in January, and it actually DOESN'T run all the time, which is a change from the old unit.
