I'm looking for a course (with workbook) I can use to teach men a basic home finances course. The men are recovering addicts and alcoholics who often have no understanding of managing money. Our ministry (http://www.freedomfarmministries.org/) serves men who have completed a Christian rehabilitation program and are preparing to return to society. I have taught accounting at the college level (long ago), but am looking for a more basic, user friendly course to use with the men. Thanks and bless you for any assistance and suggestions you may have to offer.

You can do a search on Amazon.com for personal finance. This one received pretty good reviews.

Check out DaveRamsey.com, Dave's Financial Peace University course is fun to learn, but covers things in depth. Course costs about $100. If you want an easy book, but no work book I'd recommend "The Richest Man In Babylon" by Og Mandino. It teaches basic financing in an easy story form. The group could read or study a chapter at a time. Book is less then $10.

I'd say Crown, Ramsey or go to Mike Coe's site (coeinc.org) to get Scripture-based information.

I agree with the others about Dave Ramsey or Crown. This is such a great and giving project you are doing that these organizations may contribute to your cause free of charge.

Thanks to all who responded; I have reviewed each suggestion. I have emailed Dave Ramsey and explained our need for a course for our men. I'm praying they offer a substaintial discount in our situation. Thanks again to all.
