I was wondering about what good freeware games are out there.

I am specifically looking for the wolfenstien freeware.

There are times when it applies.

"Out of Order" is a freeware adventure game that, despite a lack of voice acting, is up there with some of the better Sierra games from back in the day, maybe even into the Lucas Arts ranks.

I've heard great things about Cave Story. Haven't gotten around to playing it yet, but it's good enough that it's been turned into a WiiWare title that people will have to pay for.

One of the great classics of the DOS games of computer gaming, Star Control 2, has been turned open source and renamed The Ur-Quan Masters. I'll be playing that at some point in the future. One of my friends raved about it way back, but I wasn't willing to pirate it like he did.

Not to mention all the Flash games that are really fun (I like Bubble Tanks 2, Motherload, Loops of Zen, and Fantastic Contraption, among many others. A great way to find out about flash games is to read Blue's News, a gaming news site. Almost every day in the Out of the Blue section, there is a link to a new free online game.

If you include game mods as "free" then there are even more games to think about. Some of the HL2 mods are very popular (Counterstrike was originally a free mod for HL1, after all). If you don't already have HL2, it's not very expensive at this point. I'm too busy playing Team Fortress 2 to consider another online multiplayer game, but there are some interesting games out there. Especially now that Valve will be hosting select mods directly on Steam, making them easier to install and keep up-to-date.

Willfs, what type of games are you looking for, and what are your system specs? That will help narrow down what to suggest, and help bring games to mind that we might otherwise forget about.
