Have you ever felt a sudden urge to pray for someone or group of people in a particular situation? Early yesterday morning, I was in prayer when I felt an inner nudge to pray for anyone, anywhere, who were at that moment considering taking their own life. I prayed for about five to ten minutes for that person or persons to put down the knife, gun or pills, pick up the phone and call 911 or trusted person to help them get the help they need.

I've had similar nudges to pray like this before, but I'll probably never know until I get to heaven how many of those prayers were answered.

I'm just asking if you've ever had urges to pray for someone at a particular time. Please refrain from discussing mental health encouragement or debate issues, as there are threads for these purposes at the top of the Health and Fitness folder. Thank you.

Yes I have. Once I had this extreme urge to urgently pray for a particular lady at our church who had a deteriorating heart, and needed a heart transplant. The urge came on to me while I was at work. I dropped whatever I was doing, and prayed in earnest for the Lord to be with this lady and that He would give her strength.

A couple of hours later as I was checking my e-mail, I noticed that I had received an e-mail from my sister-in-law asking everyone at our church to lift this lady up in prayer because in few hours she was about go into heart transplant surgery. I opened the e-mail a day late, so I actually had no idea what had gone on until the following day when she had already gone through the surgery. Suffice to say, I was a bit shocked when I read that e-mail because I had just prayed for the lady because I felt like I was lead to.

The surgery was a complete success, and she had no issues with rejection of the heart she received....which was actually from someone who she knew, and was willing to donate her heart to this lady if she were to pass away in such a way that preserved her heart. The transplant was so successful, that even the doctors were baffled in how fast this lady recovered.

Yes, I have had these overwhelming urges. Sometimes for a specific person I know, close friends or acquaintances, sometimes as I'm passing near someone, sometimes just a vague "help" that is issued out of seemingly nowhere like what happened with you.

It's a truly humbling experience, and one I am always happy to do on someone's behalf whether I know them or not.

I am a huge believer in intercessory prayer.

I believe it's the Holy Spirit in us that gives us this urge to pray.

Yes and I usually end up hearing from the same person shortly afterwards.

Another time, I was studying and praying in preparation for a children's club. I had a word of knowledge that a certain person was going to phone me and within less than a minute, the phone rang and it was them! God was forewarning me. You can find out what about in the link below:

Yes, and i love it when God does that because it 1)makes me feel less like a couch-potato, 2) reassures me that he's there, and 3)helps me to see people through God's eyes and love them more.
Seriously, if you hate someone, it is soooo hard to still hate them if you start praying for them. God communicates with you somehow with out you knowing it, and you think more like he does, concerning other people.

That's awesome that you followed that leading!! Good for you.

I get those all the time. One time I had Princess Diana on my heart all. day. long. But I was just wayyyy to busy to pray for her. She died that night. Don't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever ignore those nudges.

My pastor also had nudges to pray for John Lenen one day. He too was way to busy. John died that night.

i have that right now.. the Lord has put on my heart to pray for the church and those who think they are part of the church but haven't repented of their sins, being decieved. To have a personal revival not just those meetings. Walk like Jesus did! its a very strong urge. May we all pray as the Lord leads. Not sure how to pray so He put on my heart to pray the Scripture. there are 2 prayers in ephesians, 1 in phillipians, and 1 in colossions. Probally more but those are the ones i know of right now.

Phil 1:9 I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. 10 For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. 11 May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ*—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.

1 John 2:6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.

Matt 7:21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

so yeah.. keep praying..

---
A lady at work whom I knew only in passing saw me in the lunchroom one morning, seemingly startled and a little apprehensive. All I was doing was getting some decaf coffee. She asked if my name was xxx. She left and then quickly returned after only a few seconds. She said it was really "funny" to find me in the kitchen at the time (just us two) because she'd seen my face when she was in prayer the night before, and that she'd felt led to specifically pray for me, and that she did not know details of what she was praying about.
And she wasn't sure she should even mention it, which is why she'd left a few seconds to go in the stairwell and pray. She felt led to just tell me she'd prayed. It was just something unusual and curious to me at the time. She didn't even know my name, but I tell you, my life changed after that. Although I'd accepted Jesus as my Savior at 18, I'd been been out of fellowship a couple decades and had not been growing spiritually (all I'd do was read the gospels around Easter and Christmas and visit church occasionally--and get turned off because every one was fixated on prosperity). Well after that encounter a couple years ago, I found that I had this new hunger for the Word. Couldn't get enough. Like a power switch, the bible became amplified to me. It suddenly was so interested and understandable and fresh and captivating. At the same time, I was finding all this "new" christian media--talk radio, music, sound TV ministries, devotionals by mail, Crosswalk, people at work. My heart changed, my life changed, I have a church family now, and after two years I'm still maturing and just am thankful that our Lord reeled me back to himself. After a few months after our kitchen encounter, I told the young woman at work about this new thirst for the Word. She said she is glad that she was obedient because she'd been reluctant to say anything out of fear of rejection and embarrassment. (She said she often has felt led to pray for specific people many of them strangers.)

We still work for the same company and still are acquaintances in passing. Never had lunch together. However, there's one other interesting thing about how God used this sister in my life. When I gave birth prematurely in Sept 07, she and a coworker came to see me in the hospital. She actually wheeled me to the NICU to see my son before he died a few days later. She and the other coworker, also a christian, are the ONLY two people in my life (aside from my hubby and kids) who met my little guy during his short 8-day life here; and odd thing they were allowed to enter the NICU. Most times only immediate family is permitted. I know now that they silently prayed over him, though they expected him to live.

My understanding after the fact is that God used this woman's prayer to reel me back to himself. He shored me up before a major life storm. I had not heard of "storms" but as soon as I got strong in Christ everything bust loose. In March 2007 my childhood best friend died of breast cancer at age 39 (married mother of two minors), it hit me hard. April 2007 I got pregnant with our 4th child, unadvisedly; August 2007 my dad had a massive stroke and became paralyzed; Sept 2007 I had emergency Cesarean at 25 weeks gestation and our baby died at 8 days old; meanwhile dad slowly deteriorated before our eyes and died this past August 1. I'm so glad I had Jesus.

Sorry for the length. I rarely post, but I felt passionate about this.

I've never felt a dramatic urgency to pray for a particular person for a particular reason, but occasionally I have thought of someone out of the blue and just said a little prayer for them, asking God to bless them and meet whatever needs they may be having at the moment.

Also, I frequently pray for all the people in the world who have no one to pray for them.

Oh yeah! All the time. I remember when this first began many many years ago... I woke at 3:00 am and felt an overwhelming need to pray for my pastor. Later that morning I went to the church to check on him and tell him about the need to pray for him. He told me, "Well thank you for your obedience, you may have saved my life or something."

I have never forgotten that... and when I feel the need to pray, I do. Just recently I felt the need to stop and pray with an elderly man who was walking down the street. I was actually on my way from one area of my work to another. I kept walking and began to pray to myself... but then felt that jab, as I was to pray WITH the man... so I did. I don't know what God is doing in that man's life... but I certainly know what He's doing in mine!!
