I never realized before how many celebrities are atheists. I decided to do a search online one day and came up with several names. Some dont suprise me, but some do...
Douglas Adams, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Woody Allen, Lance Armstrong, Darren Aronofsky, Isaac Asimov, Dave Barry, Ingmar Bergman, Lewis Black, Richard Branson, Berkeley Breathed, Warren Buffett, George Carlin, John Carmack, Adam Carolla, John Carpenter, Asia Carrera, Fidel Castro, Dick Cavett, Noam Chomsky, Billy Connolly, Francis Crick, David Cronenberg, David Cross, Alan Cumming, Rodney Dangerfield, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, David Deutsch, Ani DiFranco, Micky Dolenz, Harlan Ellison, Brian Eno, Richard Feynman, Harvey Fierstein, EDITED TOS 8 And there are TONS more where that came from. They may as well add Oprah Winfrey to that list too.
I dont see how those people can be blessed with money and looks and whatever else they want in life but have absolutely NO faith in God. It baffles my mind. Does this shock anyone else?

I know but im saying that it seems to me they would know that all that is coming from up above.
I think that way when something happens great in my life. I know its a gift from God. Im wondering how they dont...

You are assuming that having money and looks and whatever one wants in this life, is a blessing. Personally I consider those things to be hindrances. To quote Kid Rock (another of those atheists)...

Addtionally, while Our Lord does, indeed, bless people . . . not everything that is seemingly "good" is a blessing from God (just like not everything that is seemingly "bad" is a punishment from God).
That would mean that God is a God of circumstance, which He isn't.
Perhaps the best thing to do for someone who's an atheist (regardless of their celebrity) is to pray for that to change.

Thessa> Are you sure about that list?? Since when was Woody Allen an atheist??? I thought he was Jewish. The same goes for Adam Carolla.
As for the fact that some of these people have money, remember that it rains on both the just and the unjust. Some of these people are famous and have money because they worked hard to get there; not because it was simply handed to them. Like everyone else, they were given talents and gifts from God. Whether they believe in him or not, they used and developed those talents to get where they are today.

I think this is what Asaph was talking about in Psalm 73. Look at verse 17, I love this verse, and Psalm.
Psalm 73
1 Truly God is good to Israel,
To such as are pure in heart.

When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Not me! (Obviously.) In the case of, say, Dave Matthews, he worked hard at becoming a great guitarist, exposed himself to a vast array of different music, and used his skill to create and record original and high quality songs. Given that what he reaps is attributable to his own effort, I certainly don't see why he should credit the divine.
I'd further add that anyone who attributes their success to supernatural intervention should wonder why the majority of the world's population live in poverty, much of it abject, despite a big part of this population being believers.
Just my thoughts.

i heard an excellent sermon by Paul Washer, who says that those "rich" people could be given wealth as a curse. And thats all their reward they are getting. I will have to find the Scriptures to back this up, but just coz you have money, it does NOT mean you are blessed. God rains on the just and unjust alike. they are just storing up wrath with all their wealth.

Why does this list surprise you? If you paid attention to how Holly-weird is you should know that some of them are down right hostile towards Christianity. I'm more surprised when I do find an actor or actress that is Christian. I know Denzel Washington is...can't think of any others off the top of my head.
Also to the person that asked about Woody Allen. Yes he is jewish but he can be atheist as well. Not all Jews are religious. "Jewish" is a religion and it is also a ethnic group. You can be one w/out being the other.

I realize that, but I believe that both Corolla and Allen are practicing Jews (as in religiously). There are a number of other names on that list that I suspect aren't correct, either.

Cmon now lets be real. Granted some of these folks are genuine atheist but we cant confirm all of these. Depending on the source, someone porbably compiled a list under an assumption (btw, Oprah allegedly follows more new age spitual teachings). Money is not always a blessing, look at what happened to Chris Benoit (famous wrestler who murder his son, wife and himself) his fortunes didnt stop that. Although it's somewhat upsetting to see this, it should be encouraging for us in our lives as Christians and heres why: MATTHEW 19:16-30
The point is you take individuals whom has obtained great wealth and fame, and thats eseentialy thier foundation. THey have "The life" because they have alot of money, alot of connections, alot of fame, and alot of power and influence...without a direct reltionship to Father God, as if thier success is the meaning of life here so to speak.
Lets look at this. Granted, we have celebrities who give alot and help humanity, but think about how many celebrities have died from drug overdoses, divorced, addicted to drugs and so on and so fourth.
