I've been thinking about the importance of drawing near to God. James 4:8 says that if we would draw near to Him that He would draw near to us... When you draw near to God what happens?

You experience more of Him and walk more obediently to Him. He comes alive in your heart in a very powerful way. You feel more of His presence, and it strenghtens you to walk closer moment by moment with Him.

The more amazing your experience will be! God is constantly drawing us deeper into his love, his word..and into his spirit. I encourage you to seek him with all your heart, he will meet you there. :)

Yes, I see where you are both coming from, but I guess I was looking for specific, personal experiences of times when you went after God, when you drew near to Him...what were the results...

BravJim...Right on! Something the Lord taught me is this: when I don't sense his presence. When I don't hear him speaking. When my prayer life is dull to the point of repitition...and nothing I hoped for is revealed. I press on. I press on studying his word, sharing his word, and wait on him in prayer. This happened at a time when I was faithful. When things were going well in my life. I felt like, he had drifted away from me, but he hadn't. And at the same time, I knew this because he keeps his promises. I believe the Lord was testing me to strengthen my walk and obedience. So, regardless of my feelings on this, I kept pressing on drawing nearer and nearer to him, even in a time that could have caused me to give in and wait for him to do the drawing. And it was the best lesson, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you," exactly right. Be patient, and perservere through this time, no matter what...and the Lord will keep his promise. Praise Him!

Well, other than what I've already posted, I guess you could say His word just came alive in my heart. I began to speak verses, mixing and matching as His truth flowed through me. It was like a continuous stream of deeper and richer meaning combined with deeper understanding came to me of stuff that I had been studying about, and it all kind of meshed together for an even deeper understanding. The Spirit, the battle in the mind, the freedom that I had received, along with scripture to back it up. It was also like a deep profound love, as well as a deep shame that caused my heart to ache because I really understood how unworthy I was, and am; combined with a joy and peace. It was a life changing experience. I don't know exactly how to describe it any other way. He carried me for several months, and during that time I had more self control, more peace, more joy, more patience, was kinder. I walked around with a huge smile on my face that I couldn't wipe off because I didn't want to. It was what helped me to quit smoking, I reacted to others differently than I ever had before. It was like being on cloud 90, rather than cloud 9.

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."(Hebrews 4:15,16) Draw near to His(in my)vulnerability, obedience and His Victory. 'Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe for indeed our God is a consuming fire."(Hebrews 12:28,29)

ORIGINAL: PopsiLufsJesus I've been thinking about the importance of drawing near to God. James 4:8 says that if we would draw near to Him that He would draw near to us... We are able to draw near to God when we know that our sins are forgiven... Hebrews 10:11-14 "Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy." It is because of Christ's one sacrifice, and the complete forgiveness of our sins that it provided, that we are able to draw near to God... Hebrews 10:17-22 "Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. This is the confidence we have in Christ, the confidence that allows us to draw near to God, and what will happen when we do is explained in Hebrews 4:16... "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Peace
