I have read several people who are saying we are going into a depression and nothing can stop it. Even if the house passes something else it is just a band aid. In a few years we will just be right here again only worse. Is it really that bad out there?

I know little to nothing about economics, but intuitively I would say that we are headed for one huge economic global fallout with anti-Christ coming to everyone's 'rescue'. Galadriel2

I'm just thankful that God is really starting to judge America where it really hurts her - her money and credit. I mean He has been punishing America more and more by giving her up more and more to sin, but America enjoys that. Now He is starting to really punish us where it will distress and hurt us - our pocket books. I mean we have got to be one of the most wicked countries in the history of mankind - singularly blessed by God, are the wealthiest nation in history, have access to both the Old and New Testaments, have the history of the Church when she is functioning more as she should - like in the 1700s in America and the United Kingdom - have access to all kinds of great Christian thought - yet we have murdered 45 million of our unborn children, give maybe 1% our of great wealth to the poor and the cause of Christ, create a Christianity that is self-promoting, and are a nation of slanderers from our leadership on down. A country that is under God's wrath and deserves God's wrath. Galadriel2 P.S. You slander someone when you make them seem more wicked than they are, misrepresent their views, talk about their offenses and failings when it is not helpful - when the only time it would be right to repeat them is if more harm would be done if we were silent, second guess someone, demonize someone. Slander is making yourself out to be God as you are judging someone. It is arrogating yourself to a position and ability that you don't possess because you don't know all the facts about the person you are slandering - only God does. Just watch the news. This is what America is - a nation of slanderers. Slander is a form of murder.

So what are we supposed to do galadriel2? Relish in America's suffering? Gloat and say we told you so? How about this for an option... 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. ...but just like the rest of this Nation, I don't see the Church in America humbling ourselves as very likely.

If all these businesses go under there will be a depression and it won't be pretty.

Personally I do not think a depression is eminent, whether the "Bail-out" happens or not. Businesses built on bad paper and accounting fluff need to fail, overpriced houses and other real estate need to devalue to their real value and the market is making a major correction that everyone knew had to come at some time. Thanks RC

If those businesses fail, many people will lose their jobs. When they lose their jobs they won't be putting money into the economy, other businesses will slow and have to lay off more people... etc etc.

I don't know about the depression part, but I do know we are heading towards the end of time before Christ returns. All sorts of signs are around us and $$$$ woes are just one of many things that will usher in His return.

Thus the money is US dollars staying in the US w/o foreign investment. It all works out if the speculators and the know it all Congress wil stay out of the way. If we allow the govt. to keep printing money, bailing out pvt. business/ and blowing it over seas, spending in entitlement programs etc etc then the depression is just a matter of time.

We've been heading for one since the day Bush was elected. Smart people have been regularly predicting a depression since 2003 - yet, they were called "chicken hawks", left wing radicals, etc. Bush has finally stopped telling lies to the public, such as the 'economy is sound'. He made it clear last night our financial security is on the line. If it happens, it will happen fast and it won't be pretty. I'm glad I own a lot of guns.

The market doesn't always just correct itself. The market doesn't exist in a vacuum. The only thing that stopped the great depression were the WWII policies (no not the new deal). I wouldn't say that laissez-faire economics are the solution, nor would I say that instituting a huge nanny state is the answer. I would say the answer is somewhere in the middle. The reality though is that if those businesses fail - people will suffer, not just greedy corporate execs.

OTH, if you want to point to the worst economy in my lifetime, Dem. Prez Jimmy Carter occupied the office, and the mess all developed under his watch.

PREDICTING a depression since 2003? Well, then I predict that in the next couple of months, we'll get RAINED on here in Dallas..... Now that i have made my prediction, I'll look like a GENIUS! no...no depression.....with the globalization of the economy, the companies of the country are not totally reliant on JUST the U.S. market.....and, not totally reliant on U.S. Based companies.... how bad will it get? It all depends on WHERE YOU LIVE. If you live in a state/region that is dominated by LOCAL & STATE politicians beholden to "special interests" that repel job growth and thwart new business (like my homestate of Michigan), then you've probably been in this for a while... however, if you live somewhere that local & state politicians WELCOME business, and make it a place that encourages job growth, and doesn't thwart the building of NEW business, and doesn't punish success.....then, you'll probably fare better than others....

There is "no way Bush could have ever cleaned up the mess" BECAUSE - he's a moron. I don't expect him to be an economic whiz, but I expect him to be a LEADER. If you heard his speech recently, all he is saying is "we don't have a choice". Yeah, poor leadership leads to that - and it pretty much sums up his two terms. A two-term POTUS has plenty of time. We end up with a bailout just like with his daddy - I give it to them, they know how to steal money from the taxpayers.

How was Billy Boy Clinton personally responsible for creating jobs in the private sector and was responsible for directly impacting the overall economy? Answer: Despite his two terms, he wasn't. I'd still rather have a moron in office than a morally bankrupt narcissist.

I'd still rather have a moron in office than a morally bankrupt narcissist. Why bring up Bill Clinton? He actually did a good job w/ economy - just look at the numbers. As far as morally bankrupt narcissist - I agree! MOST LEADERS ARE from all walks. Kennedy, Patton, Nixon, Bush, Clinton, Kissinger, Ken Lay, etc., etc., etc. If morally bankrupt = getting a bj from a woman in the Oval Office - yeah. But aside from that, other Presidents have been much more corrupt and morally bankrupt. You're obviously extremely partisan, so I don't expect objectivity on your end - like all of those "moral" Republicans caught up in sex scandals (with women and men...ha). Bob Allen (Florida Chair of McCain's Campaign) - attacks gays but gets busted trying to give an undercover cop a bj. Senator Larry Craig? The "moral" pervert Rep. Mark Foley. The worse part of Clinton sex scandal was the millions of taxpayer dollars spent in legal fees - by Republicans with shadier sex lives.

Clinton wasn't impeached for his sexual indiscretions. he was impeached for lying under oath.

McCain might have been able to clean up the mess back in 2000, but with Bush running the show, there was no way he could have fixed things. Letting Bush control the economy after the dot-com crash was like giving a monkey a mop to clean up a small mess concentrated in one part of the room.

Thanks, csl, for your response. I went over this before with someone - but 2 Chr. 7:14 is a promise given to the nation Israel under the Old Covenant. It doesn't really directly apply to America or any modern day country. You can determine the underlying principle of the promise and apply that. Under the Old Covenant - all of Israel was chosen. This doesn't mean that everyone was born again through faith in Messiah, but they were a chosen nation with a promised future. God promises to heal Israel if Israelites would humble themselves and pray. He isn't promising to heal the pagan nations around them. In Jesus' high priestly prayer in John 17 we see a similar thing. Jesus doesn't pray for the world. He prays for His disciples and their testimony to the world and I think for future believers - I'm not sure on that one. My point is that you can't directly apply promises made to Israel to the United States. The most accurate prayers for a New Testament believer to imitate are the prayers of Jesus and Paul. What I would suggest doing is imitating their prayers and the injunctions to pray at the end of James and 1 John, keep being 'renewed in the spirit of your mind' - look at things from heaven and eternity's perspective, and look forward with patience to our 'blessed hope' - the return of Jesus Christ. As for the church not humbling herself - we would have to be exposed to consistently good teaching within a local church setting to bring that about - it seems to me. God bless, Galadriel2
