I am. What am I going to do with my spare parts after I'm dead? Someone might as well get some use out of them. (Except my eyes are horrible, so no one probably wants those.)

Well, I'm registered but haven't donated anythign yet! My uncle is alive today thanks to an adult stem cell transplant. That is certainly something I'd be willing to do. But, yah, once I'm dead, it's not like I need my body parts anymore!

Exactly. Even down to the eyes.

Yes, I figure that I will not need them for anything and if somebody else can benefit from them they are welcome to them.

Yes, I am. I signed a document that states that I am donating every part of me that they can use to benefit another human being. After that, my remains will be created and scattered in some mountains somewhere. My daughter had been assigned that task, and I'm sure if anyone contested my wishes, she'll fight for it even though she's still just a child. This is something we've discussed extensively.

Absolutely. Why let something rot when it could save the life of someone else?

I am, but it is ultimately up to your family...it is difficult on families to decide because the body is kept functioning
on machines and doesn't appear "dead" until the organs are harvested...so I did tell dh I would understand if it
was something they could not do.

being an ER Nurse and Firefighter i see first hand times that loved ones are "gone" but their organs may make a difference in others lives.

According to Belgian law, we're donors the moment we're born. Which I think is great. However, doctors here do still ask the relatives whether they want to donate the organs or not and the doctors respect the wishes of the family. Which is a pity. The daughter of my cousin had a liver and intestin transplant in May this year. Though her intestins still need to start to work (it's a difficult organ), her liver and pancreas are doing great. She needed it cause her liver was affected by the food she was given at night that a machine pumped into her through a catheter.

Like so many have said... After I'm gone six feet under, my body parts won't be any use to me and if they're suitable for someone... Take them!

I'm not, but only because I've read so many novels where medical people were knocking off people who were organ donors and selling them. I figured I'd leave that up to my husband.

I am and everyone in my family knows my wishes. If my husband had died in the car accident he was in 4 months ago, I would not have thought twice about it. If something were to happen to one of my children, I feel the same way.

I have a cousin who was on dialysis for years and had a kidney transplant. What a gift that family gave in the midst of their pain!

Actually, that is only true in some states. Check out this website: http://www.donatelife.net/CommitToDonation/

--------------

I am an organ donor because I don't see any reason not to be.

Yep, I'm an organ donor. Like the others said, I won't need them after I'm gone and they might as well help someone else.

I am signed on as an organ donor, and my family knows my wishes (my sisters and I all are I believe), but in the spring a friend died, and his family was charged nearly $40,000 by the hospital to harvest his organs... so I guess, if I can afford it .

I am.

I believe in recycling frankly, and why let it rot in the ground when it could live in a body?

Heaven knows I won't any of it where I'm going.
